4.11 is fine for racing My mustang runs a 4.10 gear and will be fine. Its just a C4 automatic so it has no overdrive, but i dont plan to run it on the interstate or anything like that. Just around town and at the track.
Like they said 4.11 would be good for racing and around town. Don't plan on any long trips on the freeway with it. That dosen't sound like too bad of a price, to me, if you can swing it. A good aftermarket traction lok type of rear is about $4-450 alone, if i remember right.
will something like this work good on the road and better than what I have for the track? eBay Motors: FORD 8 INCH POSI -TRACK W/NEW 3.55 GEARS MUSTANG/COUGAR (item 300
Like I said before...a 3.50 is a good medium a 3.55 is really close to that. a maverick came factory with 2.79 or 3.00 gears, which are good for gas mileage and interstate driving. a 4.11 is good for racing Split the difference and you get a 3.50 gear. Will be good around town, peppier than factory but still be able to drive on the interstate
I know '96 and later Explorers with V-8's and towing packages came with 3.73 limited slip differentials. They are the same length as a 9 inch from a Granada or about 3 inches longer than the factory 8 inch in a Maverick. That's a length (1.5 inches per side) that can be fixed with wheel backspacing. An Explorer is no where near as wide as a Crown Vic.
I bought mine from ironhorse, the same guy I think. 462 with a spool. Havn't had the time to mess with it too much lately, BUT SOME DAY! http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=31851&page=4
Howdy from the north. I run a 380 with a spool on the street and at the strip. Street tires are 275\60\15s. Strip tires are the ET drag radials, 81/4 wide tread, mounted on steel rims. The 275s are 28in tall and allow for hwy use. At 65-70 mph about 3500rpms.With the drag radials ,am rev in the 1/4 about 5800 rpm. This combo works fine for me and those that know me , know I drive everywhere with this car.If you are worring about gas mileage, dont build a car for street/ strip use. 1 or the other. If you dont care how much gas is, then go for both. You might consider a convertor other than stock to help at the strip also. I was running a 2400 that flashed at 1800.(locked up) Too low for me. Am now running a 3000 that flashes at 2400. This allows your cam to get into the better part of its HP range faster. JMO. TTFN RON PS. When you consider that my gallon is bigger than yours and I compare prices. If i was bying a us gal up here I would be paying $4.00 per gallon or $4.50 per Canadian gallon. Much more expensive EHHHHHHH!!!!!
I use a 3.80 with spool, 255/60/15 and my numbers are reasonable on the highway. Be nice to have overdrive, but 3200-3500 on the freeway is not too bad.
I just measured the Explorer rear end I have. From axle face to axle face, it is 58.25 inches. I did not say wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface because there are no rotors on the axles. You will need to add the thickness of two rotors for wheel mounting surface measurements. Isn't that about 2 inches longer than a Maverick 8 inch rear?
so with that extra 2ins you could use new mustang wheels (17x9) right? maybe? thanks for the info. i got to go hunting and aint shootin any thing
Nope. The Explorer and Ranger have the same lug pattern as the cars. They have the 5 x 4.5 pattern, not the 5 x 5 as on the full-size trucks.
Yep... I put the wheels off my '01 Ranger on my brother's '72 Grabber... fit like they were made for the car.
