If you want a cold air kit with a carb something like this is what you are looking for http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.711 but at $211 bucks for the kit plus the time hooking up and routing the snorkels it is cheaper (and just as effective) to buy a good air filter housing, a hood scoop and cut a hole in the center of your hood.
I feel bad for people with deferent ideas around here. I think one of the ford mags had an article on this very thing. Cold air from down low so you don't have to cut the hood. http://www.mustangandfords.com/tech...erformance_cold_air_kit_install/photo_13.html
yeah they used the setup I posted on the mustang, with a little different intake tubes though. But the one problem I see with the single inlet they used is it was down low. On a nice sunney day with the weather 85 and the car traveling along at a good clip this would be beneficial but I hate to say it I have to drive mine all the time not just when it is nice out, not all of us can afford to keep a car around only to drive on nice sunshiney california days...It snows in april(and every now and then may) round here so the element being low would be counterproductive(and probably harmful to your engine) in certain instances. Of course like everything though if you have a functional scoop on your hood it will get wet when it rains too, so it works both ways. (besides I think everyones biggest complaint is they dont want to start being confused with the ricer faux pas)
Nothing wrong with something different. I miss Ivy. His car was pretty sweet! I remember that he had the leaf springs from a different car that shortened his wheelbase about an inch or so. what an awesome idea. Wish I could remember what car they were for! Edit: They were 1968 Falcon springs.
I was looking at one of those in the autoparts the other day, wasnt the same brand but it was cheaper than 200+$'s.
Ram air works if it is properly installed.... You need to find a high pressure zone..... At roughly 80 mph it is about a pound of boost depending on motor size, the tune, etc figure on 7-30 hp... I stuck in on my old 306 set up and it was faster but I do not have a time slip to prove it just a street race that a pulled a car on that I lost 2 car lengths to the week prior(2 outta 3) I just used one of the old 85 dual snorkel intakes, The after markets ones are superior.... This company is a good place to start http://www.ramairbox.com/ The ram air trans ams pull on the non ram air camaros.....
So Back on topic :16suspect.... this is actually a good idea .... you could use the dual snorkel air box and ether put some velocity scoops behind the grill "one on each side of the radiator" ore cut out the other wise useless grabber scoops for the source.... just saying that because imagine how much air resistance is there with those blocked off. also the air is moving faster over the car so imagine how much force that would be going down those tubes. I'd do this if i had maverick mans c/f grabber hood..
Through necessity, I bought a shop-vac nozzle ($4 - for a big 2 1/2" air scoop) and zap-strapped it behind the grill, bought some 3" aluminum flexible ducting ($8) and two 3 1/2" hose clamps. Flattened the alum. tube with a piece of 2x4 to squeeze it through the narrow gap by the rad and jammed it over the intake port on the airbox. Works really well - but my only precaution is using LOTS of vinyl tape and shielding the aluminum pipe from accidentally touching the solenoid terminals in case it pops off and shorts out the ignition. I did this because the 1 barrel on my little six craps out when the engine gets hot (needs a rebuild) and my exhaust header is bent into the steering knuckle and keeps popping off (the result is an exhaust leak right below the air intake so the engine is sucking in it's own fumes). My $16 cold air intake is working great until I can replace the exhaust system and rebuild the carb. But *THEN* it will be a real live functional Eliminator scoop so the car will just suck in gobs of rain water.
I cleaned up this thread as some members really got out of hand. I think it would be a good idea to look up the definition of "Maverick".
Oh thank god lol i was startin to get a lil annoyed, i didn put up a thread for people to bash others on lol. to those of you who have given recomendations on a cold air intake system thank you, i now have a battle plan on how to do this project.
back on topic: as mentioned before...how can this be a CAI if installed under the hood... ...how about plumbing the snorkel to the...engine-wall side of the cowl? that way it would get...dry/forced air. plumb it to one side of the cowl vent and at the strip, put some crushed dry/ice in the other side...... ...:Handshake..
