Moving along on the sub frame train - Im looking for some bolt on after market sub frame connectors for my 73. Any leads as to which brands would be best? [ have access to a mig/tig so if minor fab is needed - no worries! ]
There's really nothing to "bolt" them to. For effectiveness, they would need to be welded, and no manufacturer makes a bolt-in subframe connector for these cars.
As I mentioned in post 24 above, I used early Mustang bolt-ins. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cee-3140/overview/year/1966/make/ford/model/mustang The only difference is the Mustang sub-frames are about 1/4" (IIRC) narrower than the Maverick's so I had to add some shims between the sub-frames and the connectors. They are very solidly connected and make a noticeable difference.
I bought sub- frame connectors from Alston thru Jegs made for Mavs..they are tubular with a nice floor hugging profile...1.5" diameter with black powder coat...they bolt in yes but as Crazy said ain't a whole lot to bolt onto...must be careful of crushing the frame rail...I fabbed up some blocks to insert into the rail giving it minimal crush...they will be welded before spring
