I have always thought that everyone on this forum are for the most part stand up people....I've enjoyed my short time on this site, and will continue to support it...

As for the negative, I simply stop clicking on that post it will go away soon enough...

Just look at some of the off topic post, that I'm sure has had a positive influence on the owner of that thread... One comes to mind, a guy that is very worried about his new born. Even the hard a$$es on this site took the time to say some kind words.... In the end we all get crabby from time to time, but we also lean on each other for the support we need. Can we live without this site ? Probably.... Do we want too ?

    Just my 2 cents...........

If you drop the off topic section, the content that would have been posted there will just get redistributed to the community center and other areas of the board.

This board has grown exponentially in the last 10 years, and as that happens, so do the chances of an argument or disagreement. People will come, people will go. Probably 75%, maybe more, of the active daily users here weren't here 10 years ago.

Reality is some people including guys who honest to goodness know what they are talking about can be wrong. It takes a big man to admit it. Flip side of the coin, when somebody who does correct somebody should not feel like they are being attacked by a defensive poster......It happens though in both cases.....

The comment about folks treating this forum like myface or any of the other social networking blah blah blogs was apropos.

I have noticed that there are many of us that often have nothing topic related to add to a post, but feel compelled to post anyway.

Forum etiquette has pretty much disappeared too. Smart alecky comments are more the norm as are thread drifts. I am guilty as much as anyone, especially when the original poster fails to use the search function for the same basic FAQ's over and over again.

Ratings or a point system for individuals can't end well. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It leads to folks creating multiple log on names to do vengeful things. Plus those that are post count glutons will post even more for rep points.

Self policing works on some forums, I am a member of forums that have only one mostly absent moderator, all the way up to some that have multiple moderators. The ones with multiple moderators are plenty busy too.

The internet has created a culture of faceless, nameless people that write things that they would never do in a face to face environment.

Then there is the topic of Trolls, but I digress. Rant over.

I hope they catch that guy in Seattle.:)

For now, you got to simply report posts, and Ill take care of them when I get home.

When I mentioned the rating system, I really meant the infraction system. I think some people will only learn to behave properly if they know that their behaviour could result in getting an irrevocable infraction.

Before implementing this, I will need to establish the rules and make sure that they have been clearly defined and that everyone is aware of them. This topic has come up a few times already, so I hope people are getting prepared for these changes.

Little different here though, in that, a LOT of us know each other in real life, or have at least really met face to face. Most other forums are no that way. I lost count of the number of people I've met off this board in real life, at around 35 or so... all great people.

Always makes for good discussion and plenty of humor when all the GA regulars get together in real life. :D

I'd admit meeting you Barry. I've also met many, many, others on here as they were passing my area. I've also gone east to Virginia and met many at the Fun Ford Weekend event at VMP. Been to a few peoples houses. But the most people I have met have been through the numerous Maverick Comet Group Gatherings and the Maverick Comet Club International Roundups held in July of each year. If you want to meet a lot of great people start making plans for this coming July in Joplin, Mo. for the MCG or/and Hannibal, Mo. for the MCCI. This will prove what a great group of people are into Mavericks and Comets.:yahoo:

i come across a little goofy once in a while, however i am that way in real life. my rule is real simple, if i wouldn't say it to you face to face then why diserespect you electronically. i have a teenager with teenage friends and have seen first hand how they will talk to people they are playing online with and have told them this same philosiphy, not sure how much attention they paid though. i have dealt with my share of people who "debate" just to "debate" and have seen how some people love the disagreement, but it is just that as long as their intent is not something more. i usually just try to stay out of debates as i have enough of that already with a job and teenager to deal with..Over all, i dont think there is one of you i wouldnt invite into my house, which says a lot because i am fairly untrusting of strangers ;)
