    Clone a Bearcat or Stabber?

Gents, it should be no problem to 'clone' a Comet GT into a Bearcat of Stabber as none, absolutely none of the items that made a Comet GT a Bearcat or Stabber were factory items. They were all, what we would call today, aftermarket items that were simply put together in a package for the dealers. I know this for a fact as I bought a Bearcat at Century Lincoln Mercury in Feb 1972. This was my first car and wow was it hot! Black, silver stripe, Prowler wheels, Thrush side pipes, wood steering wheel, Hurst shifter handle, fog lights... no air shocks, no 4 speeds. I am restoring a 71 Comet GT I recently got out of Georgia, one owner! As far as cloning goes, I am planning on restoring it to the absolute car that I had in 72... if I can find Prowler wheels.

Cool pics, thanks for posting them, I think the Stabber idea is cool. How is the project coming anyway?

I have a set of 4 Stabber/Bearcat wheels with new goodyear tires on my 72 comet gt that I may be willing to part with. Let me know if you want them for yorur car.

Wow.. talk about the needle finding a haystack to jump in. :dancing:

You should list those wheels in the classified section where they belong and to increase visibility. Maybe something like.. "Stabber/Bearcat wheels for sale"?

I sent you a PM. What size are they? I suspect 14" wheels? Still interested for sure, as I am just finishing my 71 Comet GT restoration... same equipment as the Bearcat, except the running light on the bumper up front.

The way I am reading this your saying that Comet GT's have after market parts to make them GT's. All the parts associated with my GT's have Ford part #s..

Some parts that will be difficult to find i'm sure. I am not familiar enough to know exactly what would be different.

The Stabber was sold only by Pugmire Lincoln Mercury here in Atlanta Ga. It was the black slotted mags, sidepipes, and the front fender decal that said Stabber by Pugmire. It was all cosmetic no changes to any of the running gear as that would have voided factory warranty.
