The local police are cracking down on the street racing up here also. the problem, is how its stated. It leaves it up to the officers descreshion and if he has had a bad day or had a argument with his spouse he could impound your car cause he dont like the color, or he thinks you pulled away from a light too fast. Only up here they won,t crush your car, Its against your constitutional rites until you are found guilty in a court of law.I have talked to 2seargents from 2 different locals and they both say , as long as you behave they will not bother the classic cars. I hope they are rite. I have no probem with suing a cop for false arrest and impounding of car. Have done it b4 and won my case. Allcharges dropped and a letter of apology received and cop was reprimanded.Just my 2:2cents: worth. Thks RON :D

Street racing was a problem in the late 50-early 60's. A lot of drag strips popped up in towns across the USA and people had a safe place to race, they closed most of these tracks and now street racing is a problem again. History repeats itself.

Toss the book at um,,, as a former street racer I can attest to the danger. I got busted twice and paid heavy fines and legal fees. This was back in the 70's and the world was different. We closed rural roads and raced for money. Guns, hotheads, and dangerously setup cars that were fast. Also did the stoplight to stoplight stuff. Keep the drag racing on the drag strip. Very interesting thread for an old guy.

The last time I went to the nearest drag strip (as a spectator), which is in NJ, I was in traffic on the way home. It took me 5 hours. one way. All I could think about while sitting in traffic was " I am never taking my big block 4 speed barracuda to the track". I am not opposed to mashing the go pedal on the street. But it is important to know your cars limitations [handling and braking] and avoid putting other people in danger. I would "save it for the track" if there was a strip near by. Still, I hope to get the Mav to the track comes spring. In the meantime, I aint gonna deny, its fun shutting people down on the street.

    Hey Wages and Eric,

I grew up in Itasca and Addison.

Small world, especially since I live an hour away from Wages now.
