One more reason to get the Mustang II front end. A Maverick with the Coyote and 6-Speed manual would be an 11 second car that's dead reliable. And get mid 20s mileage. Of course now the new BOSS 302 motor will be for sale soon. It makes around 470 HP @ 7500 RPM at the flywheel. While the regular Coyote "only" makes 430 at the flywheel.... I wish I had the money to do this swap But I already have a 331 stroker and it fits between those narrow shock towers so it's up to someone else to make Maverick history....
I've always wanted a set of these http://www.araoengineering.com/Ford/frdsmb.htm but it'd be cheaper to buy a Coyote engine!
Those are the old Dominion heads. I've heard a lot of bad things about the castings and the long wait to get them, and yes, they are expensive!
I had my Ford parts guy look into one, and right now I think, they are over priced. In a year or two, they'll be more common in wrecks, and will be cheaper used. Plus by then, the aftermarket support will be well beyond what it is today. I can wait.
Wow I can't believe they still make em'. I remember reading about the Dominion heads in a Magazine in the mid-late 90s. Thought they were neat but not worth the money. AFR 185s however are neat AND worth the money Yeah. And virtually no chance of finding one in the junk yard in the near future. But I read an article where a shop engine dynoed a new stock 5.0 Coyote and it made 460 HP at 7300 RPM. I guess the guys who bought it called Ford to ask how high they could rev it safely ad Ford said 7300 all day long
That engine is also in the F150, but it has different cam profiles and less horsepower to make the torque needed for the tow rating.
Great engine, but in the F150, I might have to get the Ecoboost V6. Wife's been bugging me since we watched the 30 min special for the compilation of the web videos and teardown after the completion of the torture test Ford put it through. If you haven't seen it, it is certainly worth watching.
I've seen the engine in person, in Detroit. I even touched it. I love my 5.4 F150, but the eco boost is pretty amazing. I'd like to take my car trailer with the car on it, to the dealership, and see how it feels compared to mine. Here's the engine:
There you go. I'll take my old beater car, find a new Mustang and ram him in the rear so that he's totaled then I'll offer to buy his used engine from him.
I weighed my all aluminum 2v I am building and it should way around 425 with oil alternator etc.....without it was about 385ish
after studying its design I would say it is likely the best they have ever built performance wise factory....the most HP per cubic inch....and longevity shouldn't be an issue...they went all out hell it even has oil sqirters for the pistons to keep em cool to rev to the moon.,.....
