Another U.S. Company gone ....It's all about Greed and Money and the Politicians selling us out, pretty soon Everything will be made in China.
It was an employee-owned company from 1979 until 2006... it gets bought out and it only took a little over two years for Mikronite to run it into the dumpster ... . You have to hate big companies ... mostly run by idiots ...
While I agree with your statement, the economy is pretty bad so Im sure that did have part of the play in it. Either way a sad story
Thats one of the big problems with Florida...there is hardly any industry! Especially the area where I live. On a side note. I've ran Lunati's before and was extremely happy with them so I will probably run another in the future.
A little story here: When i built the stroker motor i couldn't get the Lunati cam i wanted, (They said they were out of the cores) So i ordered the same profile cam from Comp, Upon installation i found several cylinders where the duration, Lift, and events not the same. I sent the cam back to comp and they said that the cam WAS bad. Turns out the cause was a rail yard directly behind their shop and the vibration from the cars was causing the cam grinding machine to chatter or vibrate and not grind the cams rite. They did send me a new cam but it still had cylinder to cylinder issues, Though not as bad as the first. I ended up calling Lunati and they had received the cores, They ground the cam and upon checking all the Cylinders were within 3 degrees of one another. So this is just a little food for thought, I personally will not run anything but Lunati cams. By the way Comp claims they have resolved the problem by mounting the machines on rubber mounts. But it still makes me wonder how man of their cams was installed that did have the bad grinds. They also claim that for a extra fee they will "race grind" the cam, Which is supposed to be of better quality. Seems to me they should do the job the best they could on every cam.
After reading through the posted comments, it looks like nobody really knows whats going on with Crane. Some say they are working to find a buyer and reorganize, some say they're gone for good. Most tend to agree though that it was former management that screwed the company and the founder Harvey Crane over. It would be a shame if they did go belly up with all the products and history they have as a company. Maybe Harvey Crane will buy it back and run it again and not be forced out again.
From what I read, Mikronite bought the employee run company in 2006. Then in 2007, Mikronite sold its property on Fentress (Crane's Plant) to STAG Capital Partners of Boston, then signed a 10-year lease. So really Crane (the company) doesn't own the facility in Florida anymore, but they still own the company... But from what I understand they produce cams for the OEM's, and since thats all in the toilet, maybe thats the reason for he layoffs?? A company would have a hard time operating, just relying on the aftermarket.
