I'd bet those pinto's are dangerous. Which bring me to a question. Did Pintos and Mustang II's have the same wheelbase since the II's were based on the Pinto? Also does anyone know if the Pinto wagons had longer wheelbases?
Thanks, "Pangra" pintos might've had less drag forward but maybe the little fiberglass nose didn't cut it.
I remember Wayne chewed those big cigars like Landy did,Great Pics,Thanks,I remember when I was taking these pics,I thought this is cool but I wished I was around in the "old" days.....................little did I know Those WERE the "old days",man what a great time to be alive, but I'm sure Jack Roush or any of those guys didn't know where they would end up,they were just racers..
There was a short period when Dyno was racing BOTH the Cleveland powered Pinto and the SOHC Maverick. Ken Dondero drove the Maverick. I watched them race each other at Dragway 42. Of all of Dyno's cars, that SOHC Maverick was special.
I saw Don's SOHC Mav match race Shartmans SOHC Mav at Sunset Dragstrip in Sharon PA.in the early '70s,I'm sure you know that track,we still race there today, thats back when they used rosin instead of water burnouts,Shartman would put the win light on at that "eight mile"track at 10,000 grand just doing his burn out,can still remember that sound!
I know Brent Hajek's friend, Rob Holzman. Rob built a Gapp & Roush Maverick recently, but I'm not sure if it's back into the hands of Roush yet. I got to see it in a couple of different stages, but I didn't get to see the final appearance. It actually may not even be painted yet, I'm not sure what stage it's in. But, I believe Holzman built a G&R Pinto earlier for Hajek, and Roush liked it. The original G&R Maverick Taxi was destroyed, I hear, and so Roush wanted a new Maverick built. The only thing salvagable from the Taxi Maverick were the wheels. This is all within the last year or two( '07-'08). I just tought I'd post this up to see if anyone else had the inside scoop.
So, are you saying hajeks G&R pinto is a Clone?? I think Holzman restored the original Pinto for Hajek. Not sure though. From previous experience, seems Hajek would have the original pinto. None of his other cars are clones that I know of. Regards. Al
If my feeble memory serves, one of the old Gapp & Roush Pinto's was purchased and campaigned by Kurt Neighbor of Cleveland. He put a 427 wedge in it and used to run Pro Gas. It was later replaced by a 79 Mustang. Buck Pike bought one of Dyno's old Pinto's. That was all back in the late 70's.
I remember when Kurt neighbor was running the D.O.V.E. Engeneering sponsored cammer BBFC mustang . That was 83 or 85 I beleive. Give me a call sometime Ed, and we can pickup where we left off. Al
No, sir. As far as I know, the Pinto that Hajek has IS an original. The G&R Maverick "Taxi" is what Holzman is/was building. I'll send you a PM, sir. By the way, for those of you that don't know, here's Hajek's collection photos, www.hajekmotorsports.com. By the way, I got to see the Hajek funded Land Speed Mustang for driver Danny Thompson. I frequented Holzman's shop while it was being built. It was a beauty! You can see Holzman's decal on the sides of the rear wing.
I remember kurt niebour racing in cayuga drag strip in ontario with a alum ford motor in a funning car.I believe the car was maroon in colour.. a friend has a picture on the 4 door maverick racing in quebec in the mid 70 s ..
Hey Guy's, I have really enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your pictures and video's. It sure does bring back alot of memories from the 70/80's. I have some pictures that I will lookup and post. Hey Al,I have one of our ole Buddy Bill Myers w/Dyno Don in the staging lanes at the Spring Nationals in Columbus.
