My opinion honestly is if you buy a "new" Holley you'll be fine, like someone said earlier the old Holley's had thier share of problems with idle circuits & power valves and a lot of used holley's have been jacked with, hence the drivability problems. Overall if you just want to drive it, Edel. or Carter are a great low maintenence piece otherwise go for the best.(y)

    Power?
    Economy?
    Top-end?
    Low-end?
    Tuning?
    Want it all?

Throw away your Holley, Junk the quadrajet, Trash that Edelbrock, Round file your webers and carters!!!!

Buy an electronic fuel injection kit and a laptop. You can tune it and drive at the same time. And even have good idle, throttle response, and part throttle drivablility with a 1000 cfm t-body on a 289.

It would take a LOT of "economy" to make for the cost of all the EFI parts plus a laptop vs a carb.

It's also easier to get a carb to limp home if there's trouble. But FI would be cool. I wish I had that budget.

Is fuel injection superior? Hell yes, that's why no new car has been manufactured in the last 20 years without it.

Is it cost effective to convert an old car to it? Most would say no.

I'm not hanging computers and sensors and wires all over a car I drive a 1000 miles per year, and I am not paying $2000 for the priviledge.

If you got a friend at a junk yard, or work at a shop where you replace engines 90% of the parts are free. But really, the only true advantage of EFI is the ability to continually adjust for weather conditions and altitude. As a matter of fact a properly tuned and matched carb is better but, only on the day you tuned it.

Most guys i know have a 50/50 split, they holleys have great performance, but need to be cleaned every once in a while,

The edlebrocks are the most popular so that must say somthing

Both are a good pic. JMO

they just get dirty, That is if you dont have it tuned just right, or if you have a lobby cam than they get dirty, but if its well balanced then they need to be maintaned.

The holley carbs spit, and backfire somtimes if the engine isnt tuned correctly.
