Duraspark ignition was used from mid to late 70s all the way up until the end of the 302s Im assuming... Try looking it up for this: 1984 Ford Mustang, 302 cubic Inch V8... get the dizzy and the Duraspark box.
I dont think you can buy a duraspark ignition anymore... think they are all Duraspark IIs actually... The differences Im not sure what they are honestly. But I know the parts I told you to buy were Duraspark II
for the power i would suggest the AFR heads edelbrock has a RPM top end kit.. heads, cam, intake, gaskets, everything for 1700 bucks and its rated at 360hp but you already have a cam i am actually thinking of getting the xe274h as my next cam.. so if you want to get rid of it.. let me know i would go.. or should i say I WENT with the MSD ignition system.. if you get it all from summit or jegs, you will save a little .. i bought my stuff a local shop and i spend 200 bucks more for everything.. but i "had" to have it that day i gained .5 in the 1/4 with the setup MSD Pro Billet Distributor MSD 6A box (get the MSD 7AL.. much better setup, with the rev limiter) MSD Blaster SS Coil.. there are other coils that are better.. look around MSD 8.8 Super Conductor Wires.
i dont think i need to spend 800 bucks on my ignition system when from what ive been seeing duraspark performs pretty well too... i dont want to switch cams or anything like that and i was told that the performer rpm intake isnt enough intake for what i want so im goin with the victor jr. i was just seein what people thought of the 2 and if the afrs were worth the extra 400-600 bucks..
For those of us that don't have their comp cams catalog what is the SAE duration (at .050"), lift and overlap or lobe center? Or, better yet, what does Comp Cams say the RPM range is for the cam?

Even with an extreme energy cam you are not going to get 400 hp from a 302 with it. It might be possible to get 350 with everything else dialed in.
the hp number i was just going by what my engine builder said we could probably get close to. anywhere from 350-400 would be nice the more the better, i still need to know the recommendation for the heads because i needta order them soon...
AFR has some engines that they built and dynoed on their web site. For some reason it is not working but its there. They give the cam grind, heads, carb, ect. There are 2 302 cid combinations ... one is 402 hp and the other is 421 hp. The 421 hp build is what I am using. These companies have more resources than I do so let them do the reaserch and I will reap the benefits.
What heads did the engine builder say to use? If he is expecting to get that much power then go with what he recommends. The engine has to be a union of parts that work together - one wrong part and it will affect the output adversly.
we were originally gonna go with windsor jr heads but because of the clearance issues were either going with afr 185 or edelbrock performer rpm its up to me whether i think the afrs are worht the extra 400-600 dollars and thats what im trying to figure out right now... but no one seems to be answering that question
