Okay, I see a couple of replies got it confused so I'll clear it up....
My Engine light is coming on when I am almost stopped. When I take off it goes out.
    :)

The noises are only occurring when it's really cold and they don't last very long. I've driven allot of cars that make weird noises in really cold temperatures on startup, so those noises I'm not really worried about.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll change the oil and see what happens.
Thanks for all the really quick replies. You're a knowledgeable bunch for sure.

I vote for too low of an idle as well.

This is a typical "check engine light" in computer controlled engines. Has your car been modified with a modern EFI engine?

*edit* sorry, you mentioned the carburator was rebuilt so no EFI!

You probably are talking about the "Oil" or "Alt" light? If it´s the oil light then check the oil level immediately and have the engine oil changed.

there is a "Engine" light in 75 and up mavericks. It comes on when the oil pressure is below 7psi or the coolant temp is above 250.

aha :tiphat: cool. I guess the Mavericks were ahead of their time with "master" warning light for various systems :thumbs2:

So, what's the verdict? did oil change help your situation? Did you check coolant level? are you still having issues?
