i decided to try hooker aero chambers on my first mav, 2 1/2 pipes w headers.. all turnt down b4 my axle. mine sounded awesome, just ask countrymav. i will use nothing else from now on!! they are cheaper than flowmasters and have a deep mellow tone at idle and hard aggresive scream when you stand on it!! ( pun very intended ) lol. very high quality as well
All this advice about what headers, exhaust, and X-pipe he could use. Did he mention what engine his car has? Flowmaster40s with dual hooker headers on a small inline sounds kinda phlegmy and bubbly.
If you have a spare $700 just for mufflers you could run these: http://www.waldronexhaust.com/drivercontrolledexhaust.htm
I am an owner and operator of a muffler shop here in michigan an tried a few different set ups on my 73 comet w/ a stock 302 w/ manifolds. 2 1/2 exhaust pipes, a vx sereies muffler from gorhlic compatible with flowmaster 40 series for have the price infact on the same car I ran a flowmaster and a vx muffler one on each side to compare mufflers and no noticble differnce except for the name. 2 1/4 tail pipes. not to lod jst a smooth agressive sound set up from engine back would be about 300.00 installed. Also a x pipe or H pipe has no real benift to sound only slight performance gains due to space and placement of x pipe on a maverick no real performance gains except for head ache and cost.
15 day - ticket that gives you 15 days to repair it and have it inspected for compliance. If you don't make the repairs you get fined. They can skip the 15 day and go right to a disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle charge if they want. I've had a few of both over the years ........
lol wow... really disorderly conduct just for an exhaust or lack there of... ill remember that next time im in michigan
Will that apply to a vehicle that is just passing through from another state? If I'm in Michigan, but my vehicle fully conforms to Oklahoma law, will I have 15 days to fix my Oklahoma legal exhaust? :16suspect
How would I know about Michigan .. I'm in Wisconsin ........ Anyway, not threadjacking here about Wisconsin laws .. the original post is a guy from Illinios and I was pointing out that they probably have restrictive laws on exhaust just like we do. And exiting in front of the rear axle is very bad here unless you like getting pulled over and hastled by the man.
I would have to argue with you on this one. We tested several cars all with different combos at the track and a X-pipe helped every time! The biggest gain was on a near stock 93 mustang gaining a tenth in the 1/4 mile. My maverick has a 3" x pipe on it but it is far from stock. I'll let you listen to it at 8000 rpm's you can definetly here the x pipe! I know a stocker will not benefit much but there is performance to be gained and a sound difference with an x pipe. An H pipe is usually not as distinctive.
On my 71 F100 I pulled the flowmasters, gave them to a kid down the street and put on some Hooker Aero-Chambers. I love them and have had many people as what is on there. Flowmaster sound like every other car or truck out there to me but these Hooke's have a sound all their own. They are also supposed to flow better than teh flow master according to the car craft test clint
A few guys have bolted on the Summit kit, 2 1/2" pipes w/turbo mufflers listed for 66-70 Mustangs. The kit is on sale right now for $159.
