The same week as the 2 ring binder stitches I lost a front tooth by getting hit in the mouth by a metal basket. Workman comp loves me. Yeah Tech work is a B#%#$.
I can't remember what I was doing but my first busted knuckle was on my first '57 Fairlane.... that was before most of you were born I suppose.....
Jeeze...I could go on for hours with the injuries I have inflicted upon myself over the years. (I wanted to be a stunt man when I grew up) Suffice it to say...I can feel every broken bone I have had (on a daily basis)... Most painful: Broken left femur...Traction hurt as much as the break. Most memorable: Dislocated right thumb in a fight (ahh navy days) Put it back in place my self in front of the guy who enjoyed putting the thumblock on me. He watched me do the reduction right then and there...He passed out...So I kicked him real good and left the bar. (one reason I dont drink) Grossest: Stitched my own thumb with waxed thread and a small upholstery needle after slicing it open on a heat shield on my last Datsun Z car. I have a pretty high pain threshold I guess...Or I am just cranially numb... Knuckles busted while wrenching...Cant remember how many...Decided to stop counting after the broken fifth metacarple while removing the pressed on drums on a 48 Ford coupe (yes I was useing the proper ford puller for the job) It was however as old as the car...LOL...
I'm a bass player in a band, and I do woodworking and mess around with cars. To play guitar well, you have to be fanatical about keeping your fingers intact, and my two hobbies make other guitar players cringe. One truth that I have found is that if I load a new blade into a razor knife, it just isn't happy until it tastes blood. I was cutting a radiator hose while talking to my wife. I had the hose doubled over into a U shape. I felt the brand new blade drag a bit while passing through the hose... and had that sinking feeling. I put the hose down and looked a the fingernail on my left ring finger ... put a little pressure on the fingertip and said "hmmm, I really shouldn't be able to see inside there". I had sliced all the way through the fingernail and halfway through the tip. Hardly felt it at all.The wife all but passes out looking at this. My wife freaked out ... "Don't you want to get that stitched?!?" "No!" "Why not ?!?" "Because, first they'll rip off that piece of fingernail that is still attached to the tip, and then pull that stub that goes under the cuticle ...then stitch it up ... nope .... not interested ..." Had that taped up tight for three weeks.... felt it for about the first two. The guitar player in our band freaked when he saw it. "You trying to do a Tony Iommi there?" (Black Sabbath guitar player who removed a bit of finger that was "getting in the way" ...) It healed fine and you can't even tell I did it. Not that long ago ... another new knife blade went through the face of the tip of my left middle finger.... four days before a gig. I played that night with that tip stuck back together with medical tape. Imagine pressing hard directly on a cut a few thousand times over three hours ... not fun ...
I once got shot with an arrow in the shoulder, and I didn't have anything to stitch it up, so I sprinkled a little gun powder on the wound, lit it with a match, and that sealed it up good! So I had to let my hair grow long, to cover the scar.
