They make weld through primer for that. Coat it all in Rust Bullit when you're done with the repair. Drilling spot welds can be frustrating, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
Alright, got the new floor in. Gotta be honest, I didn't do the welding. After I cut the floor out I decided to take it to my local welder to see what he'd charge. It was a little bit of nothing so I let him do it. Especially considering it was hovering just under 100 degrees today. Now, two coats on top and two partial coats on bottom, how much Rust Bullet should I get? I'm thinkin four quarts?
that should be enough to paint a...HOUSE... i got the...6 pack...of small cans. this stuff goes a long way. once open it doesn't have much shelf life. you cannot pour it back into the can. i also used...throw away brushes...a trick i heard (and it worked for me) is cover the top of the can with...cellophane wrap...before replacing the lid... Terry and Jamie can add to this...they used the ...quarts. ...:Handshake...
Rust Bullet works the very best when applied to clean surface rust. I used the quart cans on my trunk. Three coats on top and two coats on the underneath. I don't think I used two quarts. I know i used more than one quart and a good bit of another. BUT, I was soaking it into fiberglass cloth on the top and I know that required more. I used throw away foam brushes and cellophane on the can before the lid is necessary. That is, if you want to open it again. Wipe everything down with acetone before applying the Rust Bullet.
I used cellophane wrap on POR15 lids and it works good. I haven't used Rust Bullet (yet), but if it's anything like POR15 - it goes a LONG way.
Just sheet metal. Total cost was less than the pre-bent floor pans themselves New question - Ive got a good deal of paint left on the hump. Can the rust bullet be applied over the paint? I figure a little scoring with some sand paper and it should be good to go?
Good question. If there is some surface rust intermingled, it should work. My truck still had the factory coating, but was covered in rust. Call Rust Bullet. Their technical service is great. I talked to them and e-mailed several times before deciding to use Rust Bullet and on how to use it.
Looks great! I never really paid attention to how much bigger the tranny tunnels are on the later models. Cool!
