the only problems ive had driving mine in the rain is sliding because of drag radials. but with my street tires no problem. now if your out in the rain playing your likely to wreck as with anything
I have a mini-spool in my Maverick, on the street, in the rain (careful!!!) but it is low power, mid 14's on small street tires. It squeels the tires making turns, but ok so far. I also have one in my Mustang (9"), big block/juice. Been in there for years, but not street driven. As far as breaking axles and turning, IT WILL!!! I broke several when the Stang was on the street, and at the track with a Detriot Locker and they do turn hard. Think of go-carts without live axles, they will turn great on way, but not the other.
are the ebay mini spools any good??.. i used to have a mark williams in my first GT.. never had a problem..
I am going to put one in mine with some 3.80 gears. You can get away with it but it wouldn't be good in rain
I've got a mini spool in my car and I drive it all the time. In fact, it used to be my daily driver. You I just don't take too tight of turns if possible, and you have to be careful in the rain. It will slide out pretty easy if you're not careful. Mine has a really aggressive shift kit too, so every once in a while if it's wet, it will slide on the 1-2 shift if you're in the middle of a turn.
Reviving old thread... Our mav has an 8" with mini-spool, heat treated axles (4 lugr's), 4:10 gears, 3300 stall and aggressive shift programming. Sure it's a blast off the line, but beyond 60 ft (on the street) just isn't streetable (IMO). I see info on the Explorer rear end swap, but I prefer not to mess with new brake proportioning (car has all drums right now, completely rebuilt, stops fine.) What would be the next fairly straight forward swap with drums and something in the 3:55 range?
LOL - there's a thought !!! But I've never installed gears and don't know anything about it. Is this something I can learn enough about online (to get it right) or best left to a pro?
I just leave it to the pro's cause its cheap,a shop qouted me $120 to install gears and a mini spool, but a friend of mine's shop is gonna do it for $50.8 and 9 inch rears are usually cheaper install wise because you only bring them th pumpkin, not the whole car...
with an 8 inch you can also remove the third member "pumpkin" and take it in for gear replacement. I wouldn't hesitate to do it myself but then I have all the tools and experience.
