I haven't done it yet ... but on the open element filter in my 6-cylinder car I am going to put a hole in the base and attach the factory plastic connector tube to it. Then I can plug the cardboard tube from the canister into it ...

I mounted mine in the base. Pretty easy to do.

Those canisters don't work after 30 years. Either get a new one, or get rid of it altogether...

    Cannister

Will the car run any different if the cannister is clogged?

No, it does not affect the way the car runs. The purpose of the cannister is for fuel vapor recovery, so that the vapors from your tank and fuel system do not vent into the atmosphere. It is strictly an emissions-control device...

If you do away with the cannister you will either have to have a vented cap or vent the tank somewhere near the rear of the car. You don't really want all those extra gas fumes under the hood. One spark and it could have bad results....

I removed the entire steel line that runs up to the front. I just have a piece of rubber line hooked up to the top of the tank with a little lawn mower fuel filter stuck in it to keep any trash out. Been working great for 19,000 miles now. I have left my car sitting at my grandparents house in NC for over 2 weeks before while I was on vacation and didn't notice any measureable amount of gas evaporating..
