Very nice and it looks like you've got a crack in your dashpad the same place mine is cracked. I assume you are going to use the car for the street/strip.....................if so............and this is just a suggestion..........deep six the ladder bars and go with some CalTrak. The ladder bars mounted solid to the axle housing are not effective with a leaf spring car unless the rearend can pivot.............and will give a pretty harsh ride on the street. Although mine is strictly a race car this is the way it was setup some 30+ years ago....................IMHO
Just around town I am not sure it will ever see a strip as nearest place is what 2.5 hours away its more of a car to play with, take son to school in (I work out of the house) and go out ona weekend to Santa Cruz, a car get together, or on El Camino Real. and yeah I expect it to be a little harsh. And yes I will probably remove the ladder bars if I can figure out a easy way to do it I have all the tools, grinders, welders, etc.. thats why i call it semi finished. suggestions of remove the ladder bar?
I am planning on makign the interior black One day when all the other stuff is done. I expect the car to be black with a big red stripe down the middle? but hey who knows. all I know is a tan interior with that exterior has to go. -rex can yah paint the dash?
I understand the 2.5hr for you and over 3hrs pulling the trailer for me, but hey, it's an adventure and a nice Saturday or Sunday drive. The easiest way to remove them is just unbolt them and take the ladders out. I believe you would have to cut the brackets off the axle though, I don't think you want those hanging down. You could do that when you fix the pinion leak. The one thing I would do before you take the ladder system off is to measure the pinion angle and trans angle...............then when you take it off do the same.....................always measure the angles with the cars suspension at ride height. You want to see if the person who put it in changed the angles from stock..................or at least what they are before and after just to make they won't cause any problems.
First thing is that the ladder bar setup that's on the car now doesn't allow any axle movement and acts like a massive roll bar...........but it also doesn't allow the springs to work like they were designed. So, you basically have a solid axle which will definitely hurt if you intend to do any corner carving and could put the car in the ditch if you enter a corner too fast..................just not a good street suspension at all.................so when you get the car my suggestion is to take them off....as soon as you can. I equate running ladder bars on the street to running a welded spider gear rearend on the street...................IMHO
Thanks, until the owner does the few required It items I gave him I will not have fully known until I tested it out. Os yeah it will come off, metal grinder here I come
