They dont have a website to order the filler tube from? What year mavericks had the filler tube with the flap?I always spill gas
72 Comet; I pump gas with the nozzle all the way in at full throttle.. make a good seal.. fills al the way up then clicks off. I never spill any except when I go for the extra top off and even then its very minor.. But then again I have a Comet... maybe its a Maverick problem...soooo sorry..
I think the vented/unvented tank thing plays a part in this. mine is a '77 tank w/vent and I don't have this problem. I also have the...unleaded only...('74-'77) door in the spout...
but seriously.... do all of you spillers not know how to pump gas or WHAT????? If you make a seal on the car or a gas can or any container whatsoever, when the end of the nozzle touches liquid it will shut off. No spill. When you make a seal/good contact, the vapor recovery function works and senses the full tank. When I want to top off I manually pull back the rubber sealing collar so as to defeat the mechanism...... pssfff.... kids....
I wish it was that easy. This is a pretty common problem with Mavericks. There was actually a Technical Service Bulletin issued by Ford to address this problem. I have yet to see this TSB and know what it says to fix the problem.
