The tubing should not break if it's routed correctly. I personally have the copper tubing going to my gauge, which I have heard that can break too, but mine has been on there for over 60,000 miles now. I also have that same tach in my car:
Yup, thats the all black one I was talking about. Thanks for the picture of one installed. The tube shouldn't break, but the cheap plastic ones due tend to kink on the oil pressure gauges. The copper ones are less likely to kink and/or bend like you say
