I'm going down to Earl's tomarrow to pick up some parts, and then I'll probably go to a few JY's if it's not raining like the forecast is calling for. The Henry County Pull-A-Part currently lists a 1987 Bronco, a 1970 Maverick, several Granadas , LOTS of Mustangs , LOTS of pickups , and one lone 1974 Comet. The chances of finding parts such as Sport Wheels, Intermittent wiper setups, disc brake spindles, and lord knows what else is very high at this point.
Let me know what you find from the 1970 Maverick; I need a new temperature gauge cluster for the dash, mine is missing the knobs, and no longer sits in there right. also arm rests if they are black, and the chrome floor things as you open the doors, too early right now to know what they are really called, worked very late yesterday. 17 hours total, probabally be doing it again today. I think I need a coffee IV Drip or something! Where's a sleep smiley when you need one?
I just got back, and it was good... it was REAL good. I'm rich in parts. I will post pictures tomarrow. The '70 had blue interior.
LOL ... a friend of mine at work just went to Henry County Pull-a-part this weekend. He got all the chrome for his 65 Comet. He said he saw 1 Maverick and he was going back this weekend to check it out and tell me what goodies it had. He also says there is a Lime Green Grabber parked in somebodies yard down the street from him ... He is going to check and see if it is for sale ...
Lets put it this way, that '74 Comet on PAP's website is actually a '71 or '72 4 door, and it has NICE front and rear bumpers and brackets. The '70 has decent front and rear valance panels and a 302. Yes, me and a couple of friends will be sitting in the parking lot at 8 A.M. sharp when they open the door in the morning. I'll go to work pulling the valances while my friends go to work pulling the bumpers. The ...sport wheel... is Earls. I am going to leave a half decent rear bumper on the '70. I will post a pic of it tomarrow for anyone that wants to go get it. I love Pull-A-Part...
I'm trying to find more Junk Yards within a 2-hour radius of me, but my searchs on google are fruitless. Any suggestions how I should search?
Phone books and phone calls, under Auto Parts, Used, or Salvage. First ask if they have older cars, if yes then ask specifically about mavericks or whatever. I'd look at any place that says they have older cars though, sometimes you get someone that doesn't really know what's out there but they never say that. Or passing through a town, just stop and ask at a shop if there are any junk yards around, they'll point you right to them. I called a place yesterday that said they have 5-10 mavericks and a couple of cougars, can't wait until I have time to check it out. I got a couple of 69 Mustang buckets yesterday for FREE(woohoo). My local old car yard, being a regular customer has some bennies. Need to be reupholstered but complete and working.
was driving around yesterday and passed a bunch of junkyards, one of which said they had classic cars. plan on going back soon. with old clothes and tools.
ok, I'll try that. The coolest Yard, used to be in Hudson NY, POST BROTHERS; 5 years ago they crushed everything. It was like 5 football fields large, and the local community ran them outta business!
Maverick Gods I did just what you said witht the phonebook just 10 minutes ago! I almost had a heart attack!!! The first guy I get on the phone is none other than the swap meet dealer I met last year with a NOS 1970 Maverick Passenger fender for $100 and totally rust free, that I was all set and ready to buy when my wife threw a fit cuz it was Mother's day and I was spending $$ on me and not going to be able take her to dinner that day if I had gotten it!! So, he took my number, has to find it, and I'm getting it!!!!! I love KARMA, I did right my wifey last year. And the MAVERICK GODS saw fit to show their appoval, by rewarding my patience for this part. I'll be going down when he calls me back. And he has a 4 door Maverick and 3 Comets!!! Unbelieveable!!!!! My first phone call!!! Gotta get ready for work, I'm so excited, I won't sleep till he calls! What A rush!
