I guess the Mustang ones were large decals, but the Mav lower was painted blue then a thin decal with blue a white space and a red pinstripes was placed along the top of the blue painted section. See this thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=62789&highlight=sprint+stripe&page=2 It seems like it would be pretty easy to make some rolls of this decal. Pic below (decal has faded, but gives you the idea):

Me too, but the 70 Grabber hood stripe is painted on, isn't it? So we'd need a stencil made rather than a decal.

Does anyone here have a good hood shot showing the front of the stripes? The hood I took to Graphic Express compared to what I see in the gallery is slightly different. The angle on mine is sharper on the front and some of the ones I saw are almost straight across, like my Mustang ones. Perhaps mine is incorrect? Anybody, please post a shot of your hood stripes. I don't want them to make up something that is not correct. I need one of an original, unrepainted one if possible. Thanks.

    Decal Measurements

    Jim,

I emailed the attached image of my hood decal. The front inner corners of the main decal on mine are 10" back from the point of the hood, looking straight down. The angle on the front follows the angle of the front of the hood. I'm 99.44% sure that decal is original.

As Mavaholic has said several times, the 1/4" stripe was originally red. I think Ford put some red coloring on top of the blue decal stripe and the red wore off. Where the stripe wrapped around under the back edge of the hood it was still bright red.

I guess its good news. Personally, I'd rather use paint because it will hold up way better than a vinyl decal ever will. Plus it will outshine the decal. You might be able to get them to also make a stencil for those that want to use paint. I called them and got them to make a stencil for the side stripes for my 71 Comet GT even though they didn't offer it.

Are the stripes the same width in the back of the hood as they are in the front?

    Thanks for the measurements :tiphat:

Thanks, Jim and Pete, for emailing me pictures of your hoods.

I will forward them to Dan so that he can compare them with my hood and make sure the decals will be accurate. Hopefully, all will go well and the decals will be available in January, 2010. We shall see.

I take it that your hood is not original and has been repainted?

No, the stripes/decals are further apart at the front than at the back. I estimate about 3 1/4" between the main decals at the front corners and about 2 1/2" between the main decals at the back edge of the hood. The gap to the 1/4" stripe looks to be a little more than 1/4" all around but, again, threre's shrinkage to consider. I expect those measurements are within 1/16" of where the decals were before I sanded them off.

If your talking about the white space down the middle of the hood, it should be even. Should be 2" white, (1" each side of the centerline) bordered by 1/4" red then 1/4" white and then the blue. It is evenly spaced front to back, down the center of the hood. I know this to be fact because I put that scoop on my car when it was only 3 months old and I carefully measured the hood to duplicate the stripe on the scoop.

Actually, Craig, it appears to be original with white chaulky paint and most of the decal left, similiar to the one Jim emailed me. It is clearly a decal. The rest of the car has original paint with the original shields on it. I simply wanted to verify by seeing another Sprint hood at an angle to show the front slope of the stripe. Since I have only seen one other Sprint Maverick(Mavaholic's), I could not remember how the front was shaped. My Sprint Mustang and Sprint Pinto stripes are more straight across, but since the Maverick hood is angled, the Maverick stripes are slightly different. I wanted to confirm this before the decals were actually produced.
