Could it be as simple as being out of gas?

    Clogged fuel filter?

Hole in a gas line - sucking air?

What part of the country are you in?
    How cold is it?
Have you tried pumping the gas pedal a few times to try and start it?
Do you smell gas after trying to start it?

Ok shouldnt need to really pump the gas with it in california but some times while trying to start it giving it the right combination of pumps and holding pedal a touch open can awaken the beast.

I'm sure someone has probably been tinkering with the carb and its out of adjustment.

One of the first things you should do is get to an autozone or checkers and atleast get a chilton manual or such for your car. They can be very helpful at times, and ITS ALWAYS good to read more about your vehicle esp if you plan on maintaining it.

This car is not your friends hondas LOL, it has alot more potentail you just need to take the time to learn how :)

It might just be an adjustment on the shifter so it contacts the neutral safety switch in park/neutral. My Maverick is a 4 speed so I can't help you with the automatic column. If not, the nutral safety switch can be replaced.

As far as the fuel lines go, replace all of your rubber fuel lines including the one at the tank. Then see what it does. :yup:

EDIT whoops missed where he said he thinks it might have a leaking fuel line.

What leads you to believe this? You need to figure this one out quick, be safe keep a fire extinquisher close if you believe this may be possible.

Or is it just fuel smell while running, maybe smells like its running rich.

I agree here as well it looks to have an aftermarket floor shifter on it and there def could just be a matter of the contacts out of adjustment, but I am with Bob as well I have a manual transmission and not sure exactly how to explain to you how to fix the contacts. Sure one of the auto guys will chime in soon enough with a run down on what to look for.

I never went back to look at your pictures so I kept talking about a shifter on your column. You may find this switch problem much easier to fix with a floor shifter. :thumbs2:
