1. Shoulder belts were STANDARD equipment on all Mavericks/Comets. 2. Like Frank said....just "pay the ticket" and go on with your life.
How much was the ticket? I was pulled over in 18 wheeler, had shoulder belt under arm for comfort, improper usage! Cost me $139.50 After I signed ticket-told cop to have a nice day,,, he thougfht = was being sm.adt an full DOT inspection~ passed n ticked him off I now drive 3 under speed limit in S Bend In!
I never wear a seatbelt and have gotten tickets twice ... NY = $75 GA = $14 Both of these were at least 10 years ago ... I'm sure it's more now ... states need $$$$ I say scrap the seatbelt law and ban cell phone use in cars. Every car should be required to have a some sort of in car signal scrambler so you have to pull over and turn car off to use a cell phone.
State police had binoculars checking for s belts on the turnpike, that how I was stopped. Cars are $25 18 wheelers $139.50. Guess who only gets stopped! Agree on states needing $$$ plus cops wanna keep from being layed off.
If its standard on a 72 maverick, then i cant see getting a ticket for that, fight it. I can imagine ill get pulled over some day for no seat belt when i have my lap belt on, but i will try to reason with the cop.
yeah i love the shoulder harness for 71, the 73 ones clipped in before you connect the lap belt and were then locked in so they would stay on. the 71 just kinda holds on by tension, if i row the window down or reach over to get something off the tray my shoulder harness comes undone and i wont know it until i repeat the movement or reach down to take it off... really makes me feel secure... I think the idea of adding an extension is good if you keep the stocker, or get one of the self retracting types... discomfort to me is smacking your head on the steering wheel or windshield when some moron cuts you off....
I took mine to court and the Judge tossed it out. Was a pain in the arse because I had to take off work to go to court but in the cop was dead wrong for writing the ticket in the first place and I even mentioned it to him POLITELY before he wrote it and he still wrote the freakign ticket. In Maryland if the car is registered Class "L" Historic anyone over 16 does not have to wear a seatbelt and if the car is old enough that it didn't come with seat belts (1966 or older I believe) then they cannot force anyone riding in the car to wear them. I would say that if you can't afford the ticket then you probably cannot afford the time off from work and the seatbelt ticket is gunna be the cheaper of the two roads but don't know that for sure. Good Luck which ever route you take
I just removed the shoulder part and only have a lap belt. Since they don't see the sholder part they just assume the car's too old to have one.
When I replaced my headliner, I never re-installed them...as far as anyone is concerned, the car never had them. Here's what we can get, when we get a ticket: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/seatbelt.shtml
It would be worth fighting in TX. $200 per person, each get's his own ticket unless under 16, then the driver gets one for the kid also.
LOL in cali the can ticket the driver for each passenger and each passenger over 18 gets his own ticket. they can pull you over strictly for not having the belt on regardless of year. my 74 wagoneer was lap belt only so i got pulled over a lot, never ticketed luckily. eventually added shoulders though cause i just dont like being without. just as an FYI, shoulder harnesses will not stop you from smacking your head on the side window or your passenger....
In Arizona if youread the seat belt law, there are 4 exceptions to the law. Exception "b" state " if it physically or mentaly impairs you to wear a seatbelt and you have a letter from your Doctor, Physician, or physicians assistant stating so, then you cannot receive a ticket." Mine is kept right behind my drivers license.

His name ain't FRANK for nothin'. Shoulder belt is long gone from my '72. Been pulled over several times, no cops have ever said anything about it. Always wear my lap belt.
