This resurrection post has pics that I posted post-resurrection (they did not exist until I did my project and after the original post was made) plus this new one from a recent roundup picture.

This is the kind of information that I (and other P head users) may be VERY interested in...:thumbs2:

i think roush 200 heads are set up the same way for spark plugs, real big pain in the ass on the drivers side.

Gotta watch which heads you buy nowadays...some have plug access, some dont. Makes a heck of a time if they dont have clear access...

That would be my car, the headers are Tri-y by FPA and they are not cheap http://www.fordpowertrain.com/opening.htm , the passenger side is a drop in but the driver side I had to modify two tubes because of the pitman arm hitting them ,also had to lightly dent one pipe that was hitting the steering box. After doing the install I learned that P stands for Pain, but that's what makes it a challenge. My next project is to intall this EFI manifold.

They have gone up in price , I paid around $375 a couple of years ago. I wonder if the driver side header would have needed no modifications if I had did a rack and pinion conversion?

Would the explorer headers fit or at least be close? They are very diff from mustang headers.

Usually the exhaust manifolds or headers for the 5.0 engines swing out alot further and would hit the shock towers on older mustangs and Mavericks. Another alternate choice would be to use Mustang hi-po cast iron exhaust manifolds, they don't flow as good as headers but they fit great.

    headers

I will be using a P headed engine in my wife's Maverick... I do have a pair of the HiPo manifolds from my 1964 Fairlane, but I don't know if they are the same. The car will be a floor shifted 4r70W, and we don't mind trimming back the shock towers some for header clearance. We are seriously looking at going single turbo like one of the Mustangs I am currently building... all five of my current Mavericks are six cylinder bodies, so I don't have anything to measure off of for working the build out. I'll stick a dummy block in when we get closer to assembly... but what would be my most obvious choices, given I don't mind trimming my towers? I can also get a spare set of header flanges if need be...

    RE-RE-Reresurrected!!!

I was starting to miss this thread!:D

Just skip the P heads and go with non-P GT40s, or something aluminum.

The fact that this thread has been resurrected several times, with only a $450 header to fix it, shows that they are a major hassle to work with.

But, good luck. Sounds like you have a really interesting project in the works:thumbs2:

And, now that I re-re-reread the post, those were the guys I was talking to several years ago when I first got my Ps.

    engine

The engine is out of my personal Explorer... it was hit and totaled a little over a year ago. I know the engine is perfect for what I am doing, just have header issues for the Maverick only.

The 64 Hipo's will work or most any of the stock cast exhaust manifolds on the P heads,a mustang 2 1/4" H pipe for hipo manifolds will work if you cut 1" out (flange end) and reweld it or it will hit the firewall. If you want to use headers I have to agree with Scooper, go with regular GT40's and not P heads.

69 mustang heads, basicly C9 heads, will out flow and out perform those silly P heads;)
