So I'll steer clear from the P heads for now. The engine is currently a 1976 302, in stock form. Here is the following that I'll have done: The exhaust I have is comprised of Hooker Competition 6901HKR headers, Pypes universal driveshaft x-pipe kit and side exit Magnaflows. Tranny, C4, got the B&M Transpak treatment and also got a B&M linelock. For the ignition I have MSD's StreetFire CDI, Accel racing coil and Ford Racing 9mm spiral wound spark wires hooked up to my stock Duraspark distributor. As for induction I'm planning Performer RPM intake manifold with my Autolie 4100 600cfm carb. Stock 58cc heads. As for cam with stock heads, I was looking at the High Performance line from CompCams since they are said to work best with low compression (8.0 to 9.0:1) engines but I'm unsure if the he268h or xe256h would be right? (also looking for a nice lopey idle note while I'm at it) I'd go for a roller cam, but $$$ for now. What do you all think I should use as a cam?
Don't buy a cam that will go with your current setup. Buy what will go with what you want it to be when it is finished. So, if you plan on getting better heads, buy a cam that will work with them, or you will be doing ANOTHER cam swap when you swap heads. Engine might not run at it's optimum level for a while, but when you drop on the new heads, you will be happy.
ratio411 I'd like know what Lunati cam you have. I'm basically torn between the 61001 and the 61002 cam. The 61001 is said to be good for 1000-5500rpm, whereas the 61002 is good from 1400-5700rpm. Compcams suggested the xe256h or the he260h. Lunati recommended the above two. I guess what I looking for is a cam with little compression bleed off.
