Its no biggy.. I just decided to pullout the a/c plenum.. now, I will need to cover up the firewall and the cowl hole... I wish the gauge cluster would have been with individual gauges instead of the factory cluster.. that way i could have replaced them with what ever I wanted.. If i recall, Ryan i believe, mentioned that inorder to remove the dash the windshield needs to be pulled?
Now that you know wha the gauges are out of it should be easy to get them all working right. Just get the sending units for that car. As long as they work it should be a nice dash, no need to swap them out.
you can get the dash out with out removing the windshield. its not easy but its possible. mashori did it and posted about it. try searching. there are 5 bolt heads under the windshield gasket. you can lift the gasket enough to get a wrench in to the bolts. if you are replacing the cut up dash with a good stock dash i have two out of cars right now and will be pulling the one out of the comet if you need one.
Are you wanting to change the WHOLE DASH or just the DASH PAD? th epad can be changed without removing the windshield. the dash itself would be 90% easier with the windshield out. Only Mo has the patience to do it with the windshield in, but hes a doctor so he has more patience and is good with his hands in tight places.
tossing around ideas... if i don't use that cluster then i have a hole in the dash and thats when i was thinking of replacing the dash.. at the same time swapping the dash out to a black one...
I swapped a dash in my 73 with the windshield in. I lifted the rubber up and wrenched the sheet metal screws out with a 1/4" open end wrench. A wide plastic scraper makes things easier but it's definitely a tedious task.
50 for the black one that came out of the 72. this dash as a small rectangle hole for a fasten seat belt light in the middle that a 71 doesnt have. it also is a non ac dash so it doesnt have ac vents in it.
