    Clear!
    ZAP...
I am bringing this thread back to life to add Tri-Ys to the discussion.

They are considered the best all around street header.
Shelby used them on his cars.
They have long tubes merged together in pairs then pairs into collectors.
They are touted for awesome street torque and ground clearance as they only have 2 1.75" pipes going into a 2.5" collector.

I always assumed that since any other header that fit a 65 Stang would fit our cars, that Tri-Ys would too.
I figured they were only listed for Stangs because no one ever thought to list them for Mavs.
Well, I bought a brand new set and put them on the Sprint.
I had clearance issues with the pitman arm and the clutch arm linkage right at the tranny. Z-bar fit fine, and awesome ground clearance.
The car is manual steer too if that means anything.

The headers were cake to install since they are very compact.
Why can't we get some Tri-Ys to fit. They are close, but no cigar.

I still have the headers, because even though they are new, they have a big dent in one pipe from the pitman arm.
I was trying to build a very mild and stock looking setup. Boy do I still wish I could have those headers on the Sprint. However I was forced to pull the 6901s from hibernation and rehab them for use. I didn't really want to use them on this particular car.

to add to what Ratio said i was watching Horsepower TV on spike and they were dyno testing sbc with 3 different kinda of headers

    tri-Y 1 5/8

    steped 1 5/8-1 3/4

    4 tube 1 3/4

the tri-Y had almost 10 lbs more torque over the either one of those headers and about the same HP

shelby wasnt dumb thats why he used them on his shelbys(y)
