I can only imagine. The mess alone usually deters me from many jobs. Well that and the lack of know-how, tools, time and money. Other than that, I'm game!

If you have a clean place to work. A average collection of hand tools. The willingness to learn, a good website like this one and a couple extra bucks for some books I feel like the average hands on type of person can do just about anything to these cars and trucks of ours.
I know everybody is not up to it but if you have been messing around with cars for several years and like it, plus like to learn how things work you can probably do it.
The ford 8 and 9" rear ends are the easiest of almost all to rebuild so they say. The C4 is also very easy to rebuild. I did 1 c4 following a book and some online stuff and never had a problem with it. A friend still uses it in his drag truck.
Ask a lot of questions before hand. Read up on what you are going to do until you understand how it works. Take all the pictures you can on tear down.

I've been running numbers trying to find the cheapest way to get a 3.80 into it... so far I'm at about $400 total to change everything over to where I'll have a 3.80:1 open... or for $700 or so I can get a complete 3.80:1 posi third member ready to install. so I'm in the same predicament...
