    Block

ok i want to get started on this project. First what block should i use? an OE roller block or a vintage block?

i'm hoping to get 350Hp at flywheel and a 100-150 shot.

Will the later blocks handle this much, i've heared they only handle about 400HP.

I think i can trade my sisters boyfriend this old 350 i have for a 289 he's not using.

the adavantage to geting a roller block is that its relatively cheap to use a roller cam in it. if you get a non roller block you can get roller cam set up for it but its a little more costly for the lifter set up. the 5.0 roller blocks are know to start spliting in half at the 500 to 550 hp range. Nitrous puts a really hard punch on a motor with it being a all on or all off type of applications. at a power level of 125 you should be ok. now if you can get that 289 block for free then you will be ahead cost wise and should be able to budget for a roller cam conversion. its worth going roller expecally if you want the 350 hp at a reasonable rpm level. the older blocks are susposed to be stronger than the 5.0 roller blocks so that should give you the insurance to have the motor live at 500 hp on the juice.

Mine was an '88 roller block, sprayed 150 on it for 6 years w/no problems out of the block.Of course it was only about 400 total hp(with spray),so well within the limits of a stock roller block.
