Sounds like a combo of things, wear in front end, worn shocks, aero. Front end seems tight, but I imagine at those high speeds, every thing is multiplied. I don't have any plans to repeat the top end sprint anytime soon, just normal highway speeds {65-70}. Guess I will start saving up and get new components for the front along with new shocks {planned on getting those all around anyway}. Might look into a front spoiler, not a real big fan of most that I have seen though.
At speeds in excess of 90-95 mph aerodynamics are a prime concern. You want to keep air out from under the car - that means get it out from under the hood too. You want the front end lower than the back end but you want the whole car as low as you can get it (and still operate on the driving surfaces available). You want negative camber and positive caster. You want less tow in and everything has to be tight (stiff). You want no play in the dteering and lots of turns lock-to-lock so you can make moderate inputs to the direction of travel.
my car on our bypass gets a *floating* feel to it past 55mph, just to add to the discussion. ive replaced most everything with stock parts (nothing performance oriented) i would just say the mavericks no aerodynamic vehicle ... just my 2 cents. ---i would say that the hovering feeling is good (keeps me driving slower), so im not hot rodding around town like most of the kids in town
Can't argue with that! They were sold to folks for going to the grocery store and grandma's on sunday after church. You can make them better though... That is why we mod the engines, transmissions, brakes and add our favorite dress-up items!
I honestly believe they are more aerodynamic going backwards. I'd love to see some wind tunnel testing. The engine bay seems to be a huge source of drag.
I get my Big Block 200 c.i. up to 70 mph and have about 20 seconds to back off the gas and let the tired fuel pump catch back up to the carb or it runs out of gas. I rebuilt carb and set float properly but still does it. Atleast it keeps me from killing myself in this old dog till suspension gets rebuilt. My daily driver is a "cough" 06 Honda Si "cough" that does 150 mph (been 135 comfortably) in it. good luck and yeah gotta be tight all around to play over 100
It was just an experiment but at 90 mph I almost needed both feet on the brake to avoid hitting the people in front of me and I have a lot of new (stock)front end parts. My little brother and I agree you need front (bigger) and (back) sway bars for those curves in the road at high speeds. I let him take it well over 100 mph since he's nuts anyway.
