Just the spring that is on the carb.

The cam is either brown or maroon. It is the most aggressive one in the kit, with only one hole.

Looks brown in this picture, but looks more maroon in real life.

That's your problem......the brown one is for the 50cc pump...NOT the 30cc that you have. Try the blue pump in the 1st hole.

When you say "just the carb spring" do you mean the on the shaft? If so you should run another spring from the linkage to a point on the manifold or such for safety.

Yes, just the stock spring that is on the carb. Wouldn't be too difficult to add another spring.

I got it working now, just had to move the cam screw to the 2 hole on the cam carrier.

Yes, you are right. So there are two springs.

And that cable spring is pretty stout.

You do not want to add more spring pressure, that's what wears the throttle shaft and shortens the life of the seal the shaft and the base plate have when new. The reason you drove it for 6 months then had a problem was the overly aggressive cam, that accelerated the cam wear, causing the flat spot it stuck on.

A light spring connected to the bottom of the bracket on the throttle side is all that is necessary to aid in return. A heavy one WILL bend the shaft. Selection is the key.
EDIT: Get rid of that brown 50cc cam and do it properly.

Why? my car likes it, and it works. It doesn't seem to bottom out the pump.

Yea, but that's likely where your sticking problem stems from. (using the wrong cam)
