Ha ha! I've been there too. It even crossed my mind to fake T-bone 'em if they started pulling on me!

Off the line I have yet to be beat by an import. It will happen sooner or later though. I did have an Acura RSX come up on me when I was cruising about 55 and fly by at about 100mph. We got to the next stop light and he laughed at my car. Lets just say I had the last laugh as I proceeded to hand him his ass. Then again to be honest I don't think I have lost a race on the street. I have only been to the strip a few times. Disclaimer street racing is not a game. I do not recommend anybody try it. I do what I do like it or not and not interested in your opinion. ;) I do know of a honda crx that runs mid 10s. I try to keep the badmav on a rice only diet but sometimes a little protein like a mustang or camaro will do. :D

It's what you do with what you got. I see lots of imports run at the strip, some fast, most slow but they still are out there taking their licks and keep running because it is fun. My friend has a 10 second Supra turbo but I would never trade my fourdoor Mav for his mega-buck import. Enjoy what you have and don't be a hater. I am hardly an import fan but you won't win them over by insulting them. They will continue to stereotype us and vice-versa.

Can you imagine someone taking a low-buck grocery getter and trying to make it fast?...... Sounds familiar doesn't it.

Ok, now... Hondas are crap and Mavericks are cool.... BUT, if you're smart you'll let her win and use the 20 bucks to take her out!

I have heard that these cars can be fast now and again, but I have yet to have a smarta$$ punk with a 6" exhaust tip and park bench on his decklid be able to pass my 98 E350 van if I don't want him to. An extended, 1 ton, diesel van! Drop the hammer on a PowerStroke and you get one surprised ricer.

Reminds me of a few bumper stickers I have seen:

"My car's lug nuts require more torque than your Honda makes!"

"Racing a Honda is like racing in the Special Olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded!"

*Don't give me a rash about being inconsiderate with that last one... My little sis is afflicted with Down's Syndrome, and I can be light about it and still love her.

There was a kid where I used to work that was bragging up his Accord and "talking smack" about my Mav. On the way home he was zig-zagging behind me (in a 25 mph zone). patiently I waited till we got to the highway and blew him off on the on ramp and left him in the dust. Even his Honda Racing sticker on the windshield couldn't help him. That being said, my brother has an 87 Nissan 300z with a junkyard turbo motor and 3' exaust. I was quicker off the start, but he has repeatedly spanked me (15.009 best, to 14.00 best times). Of course, that's why I picked up my 351w (we'll see this summer!)

My definition of a cool car is in the design. The sport image or a the performance look. The long hood, short deck design my favorate. I only can expect a car to perform as it was intended to. Performance upgrades are welcome. My Maverick has a 310HP 302. I work with younger people, 22-28 years old and most of them (not all), could care less about anything older than 1995. Some don't even know what a Maverick looks like. I gave up on the fastests car thing in 1987 whin I drove a new V6 Buick Grand National. After seeing one of these cars beat a 427 Mustang on Telegraph rd, I have learned a lesson I will never forget! Joe:eek:

Hmm.... Honda Prelude vs.. Ford Maverick...

Well RiceBasher, I had a 1989 Honda Prelude. It was a neat car, but I must say I like my Maverick WAY better. I had the 2.0L SI model of Prelude and that thing was quick.. but a V8 will blow that thing away. All I have to say is blow her doors off! oh.. and tell us about it :) I like hearing about rice burners getting walked :-D.

Young people say stupid things, regardless of what kind of car they fancy. At least the ricers care about something, and they have to pick cars they can afford and are readily available. Can't fault 'em for that.

A lot of ricers are really clueless, though. They think that cars started being built at about the time of their birth.

Being in the industry, I have also met a LOT of ricers that are really sharp and appreciate all things fast.
