Im being dead serious, that rear end is too clean to be something normal (could be but...) We need a better picture, or better yet, go out there and see if it has a hump on the left side (i know about the early housings guys but it looks like a late model) Also jack up that back and spin a wheel, if the otherside turns the same way, you have a "trac loc".
good news is that you have a 9" hopefully a Track Lok also... the bad news is that you have air shocks in the rear. Replace them ASAP. They are just bad news, and will tear up the sheet metal.
cool! I have a 9" rear! yeah I will throw a set of KYB's back there or something along those lines, I dont care for air shocks myself... anyway, how do I determine the gear ratio? would it be marked? or would I have to open it up? Also, if it does have the 9" would it bolt right in or would it be modified to fit? if it was modified to fit why bother doing all that work if they didnt put trac loc in there?
those brakes look like lincon versaille brakes. thats defintly a 9". you can figure out if you have a trac-loc (fords name for a posi) by one of two ways. the borring way is to jack up the car with the trans in park. try turning a tire. if it turns easly and the other one turns the oppiste direction then its not a trac-lock. if it doesnt turn then its a trac-loc. the fun way is to go and do a burn out. if both tires spin its probly a trac-loc. if one spins its probly an open. good purchase there.
So whats it mean if you turn one tire and the other one does not turn at all. Not sure of what gear its in
I like the fun way better! So I have to jack the car up so both rear wheels are in the air, secure it and put it in nuetral; then turn one of the rear wheels towards the front of the car if the opposite rear wheel turns towards the same direction it has the trac-loc, if the opposite wheel turns the opposite direction or towards the rear of the car, its not a trac loc?... seems to me if I kept it in park they wouldnt turn at all, otherwise what holds a car from rolling if it's in park? Alrighty then, do you guys see anything else in the pictures that may strike interest? Also, does anyone recognize the brand of rim that's on there? they look like Weld racing rims but not sure...
You seriously couldn't tell that's a 9"? Are you sure you're a Ford guy? Definitely looks to be a Versailles rear/brakes. Looks like a great car!
Thanks guys looks like I got a head start on this project. I am new to the ford scene having been into VW' and GM. But these Mavericks and Comets always appealed to me. So is there a way to determine the gear ratio? Wht gears did versailles come with and did they come with trac loc? Thanks
Havent seen to many 9s, gosh Plus it was half of the pic, it could have been and it may not have been.
