600 to shorten and weld perches...? Seriously I had mine done for like 140 plus an extra 20 to add a drain plug..then I ordered moser axles to go with my spool I had. You might want to see if anyone else shortens rear ends there.

I have looked into it considerably the 600$ figure was to shorten the housing and axles, cut off all the crap, weld on new perches.

I would love a 9inch but it is probably overkill for my car.

Also I just do not have the time to be going to anymore pick n pulls, all the exploders I found were missing rear ends! Go figure.

I am going down tuesday to get a final price and talk to the shop that had the lowest quote (1250$) /this was for a true detroit locker, richmond gears 4.11 installed new seals and bearings etc. Drive in done in an hour drive out. The convenience is killing me.

I also searched for ranger rear ends all of them were not 8.8's but smaller.

Did not find any bronco II's to rob from either.

On top of that for 800-900$ for the third member after I do the installation, that is for a track lock or clutch type rear and gears...Isnt it worth the 400$ for the detroit and to have a pro checkout the axles and everything while its apart?

It is a ton of money (more than I have in the engine) but it may workout better in the end.

    Opinions?

Thanks for all the tips btw guys, I do not mean to sound like I am dead set on the huge money local shop rebuild, but I keep hitting a brick wall with it.

The gears will make this car really come alive, I know it. 2.79 with 26" tire is like 1900rpm at freeway cruising speeds so far. It takes way too long to get in the meat of the powerband in first gear. I know it will wake the thing up....

man if your going to buy a detroit locker then go 9". its allot of money to spend on a 8".
check out spartan lockers. there pretty new to the scene and ive installed a few and like what i see. they are inexpensive. i see a 9" 28 spline option. that should fit in a 8" also. it should be about 400 less then the detroit will cost you.
