Zx2, MR2 and Fiero eh? A winning stable for sure.

He does realize his cars engine management systems were built by the Aztecs right?

I think you are on the right track. Unless you are really going for a modern overall look for your Mav, I think carb will look right, and maintain the overall image. Having a roller cam and forged pistons under it is all good too.

Like Darren stated, installing it right in a non-stock application is a tough one. My daily driver is a 98 Explorer, and I am going through issues right now that has me leaning toward buying a scan tool. Can't imagine paying someone to diagnose all this.

If you ever wanted to mod your motor away from stock with EFI, that is a whole 'nuther bag of snakes. With a carb, it can be fairly easy.

Too funny! I inherited a 96 Suzuki Sidekick. Pretty sure it had the Nintendo 64 Engine Management System. If it was a bad day and the Check Engine light came on, I could turn it off, pull out the ignition key, put it back in, start 'er up, and ... voila ... it was a brand new day ... no CEL light ... not too terribly smart ...

If I ever went to fuel injection, it wouldn't have an " E " prefix, it would say Hilborn! Until then my carb stays put!:)

Remind your friend that you can tune or repair your carb with just a screw driver, he can't do that with EFI. And why does he think it will get less mpg and make less power?

i feel that people now think that if you drive an old car all the old technology is unsafe and unreliable and you need to upgrade it all. its fine if you want to upgrade YOUR car but a lot of people drive origional cars. they want them to feel and drive like they were when they were new. i have felt for a long time that if you want your old car to act like a new car why don't you just buy a new car.
