one thing that could really spike the demand or intrest in a maverick is if a major magazine does a good build on a maverick. hot rod, car craft, etc really have a strong effect on trends.

It's 2010, and this is not the place for that, free speech is a wonderful thing.
Overall I could care less, some times things get taken way too personal.

When this comes up I never know how to react. I don't know if I'm being called cheap or if my car's being called a pile or if I'm even on anyone's mind when this stuff gets said, but neither of those things are true.

I don't drive my Maverick daily because it's cheap. It's not. I love this car, it's mine and it runs great, so why would I drive anything else? I love its looks and its quirks. Its total lack of sophistication and complexity makes me happy after a long day of dealing with damned computers and complicated people. Every mile I drive in a new car is a chore. I don't care what it is, 99% of the time I don't enjoy it. I drive old cars because I prefer them. I always have.

I drive this car because I am stubborn and selfish about this one single thing in my life: I want to drive a muscle car every day. If it wasn't a Maverick it would be a Duster, Nova, a V8 Datsun Z or some other cool old car that's not quite a "real" classic. It's always been that way. If I chose to drive one that has value, I couldn't do it the way I do now. I could wipe my car out on the way home from work today and world will suffer no big loss. Provided I survive the wreck I'll have its remains towed to a place where I can dismantle it, I'll drop a little money on another body, enjoy a few weeks or months of time well spent with friends, tools and sanding blocks, and my car will be born again looking better than ever. I wreck a Chevelle or a GTO, that'll be the end of it. I probably won't even get out of bed for weeks.

And I am very glad there are still a few cars like the Maverick that can allow people without deep pockets to get into this hobby. Let the kids drive Mavericks! And drive them into the ground if that's how it goes. It will only increase their rarity. My first car was an old rear wheel drive car. I fixed it when it broke, and I made it a nice car. I learned to power slide in it, perfected the fine art of donutting, did everything I could to make it faster, I drove it hard and I loved it. Eventually I wrecked it on a deer. It was a POS and it died a senseless death, but it was the first spark that lit a fire in me that will never go out. If my first car had been a Corolla I'd probably have moved up to an Accord or Camry, maybe a nice crossover SUV by now. Because I'm such a computer geek I could only assume I'd be even more into technology without having the car hobby, so I might even be driving a hybrid. I'd never know what the big deal is about driving because I'd have never driven anything fun.

We need cheap musclecars to raise up the next generation of hotrodders. If the Mavericks, Vegas and Mustang II's don't get the kids' attention the Civics and Integras will.

Two days in a row last week, parking lot of Home Depot in Broussard, Louisiana. Two door, faded original red paint job and reindeer horns clipped onto the windows. I wept for joy.

Well said!! My wife drives a Cadillac DTS. Its a great car for trips but I rarely open the hood. My daily driver is an Explorer. When someone asked how many valves it had I couldn't tell them. I rarely look under the hood. Those cars are like appliances. They get us from point a to point b reliably and efficiently (well, not so efficiently in the case of the Explorer). There's no emotional bond to them. BUT, I spent 2 years bringing the Maverick back from the brink. Even tonight, I wonder if it will get me to church and back but I love that car. Its a member of the family.

Not even a close second the car is actually on ebay listed directly under the first car of this discussion and description states is a 48k original mile car but yet it needed a complete interior re due in some hokey pokey tweed and three on the tree with rust issues on the bottom as per seller. And I see someone from this forum contacted the seller and he explained every thing that was done it positive detail with 3500.OO in the motor alone with a 9 inch and subframe connects welded in with mustang II front end new windshield and ton of other new parts read the ad my guess is that you contacted him which is great only proves every point confused 72 and my self have made about this post period.http://cgi.ebay.com/Ford-Maverick-3...4170113?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item45f771be81

I love the original post. I'm keeping my Comet for life... I don't really care about it's resale value...BUT.. knowing that it wouldn't fetch much makes me feel better when I leave it parked in weird places on trips... that's cool in itself. I hope the value NEVER rises!! HAHAHAHa!
I'm leaving for a drive from Los Angeles to Vegas soon....can't wait. I drive my Comet all up and down the state of Cali.... Old timers wax nostalgic and tell me how nice my car is.. I just weighed it at a scale... 2,860 lbs with a trunk full of tools, gallons of water, spare tie and tune up spares..
When my wife and I pull into little towns it's cool to be in a old car instead of " Oh here comes the LA yuppies in the 7 series Beemer"
I do wish the trunk was a little bigger though... :)

Why do i keep my maverick around? Because its the best!

Even if the car was worth around 20,000 the way it sits i would keep it.

I would take a 302 grabber fully restored over a trans am any day, and thats a fact (just ask maverick maniac)

It's weird how many people here states that "it's a cheap car to build" but then say that "parts are very expensive and hard to come by", am I the only one that sees the contradiction?
By those parameters it should be as expensive as a 429, and it's not! Personally I have seen the overall prices in mavericks and it's parts go nowhere but UP, it's just a matter of time 'til they reach a good value. Now I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but i'm sure happy I already have mine before that happens.
I guess that the thing that I want the most is the respect that these cars deserve, I know that they get it most of the time when you get them on the street and people turn heads like the exorcist, but it's cold shoulder of the car community that bugs me, the " oh, it's just a maverick" thing, I just would like people to love them just like we do.

Most of my buddies have caught the Maverick fever, now instead of "your building a what?" I get "when you gonna sell me one?"
