It's not a cheap car to build, it's a cheap car to buy. Maverick-specific parts are hard to find. Other more popular cars like Mustangs and Camaros are expensive to buy but cheaper to build. For instance if you want a nice new chrome bumper for a Mustang, just pick up a catalog and drop $150. Want one for a Maverick, be prepared to pay at least double that amount to a rechromer after you find a good core. Interior parts. You can buy a whole interior for the mainstream classics, and there's such a market for them that competition drives the price down. I don't know of any interior part for a Maverick that you can buy new, unless it also came in a Mustang. So you're either on the hunt for good used or NOS, or you're sending bits off to be replated, reupholstered, vacuum formed, etc. Body parts. You can buy entire bodies new for some of those cars. Granted they aren't cheap but they exist. Fenders, grilles, trim, quarter panels, roofs, trunks, floors... No problem, and reasonably priced. You can get a new Maverick quarter panel, maybe a rocker, some aftermarket hoods, a few rather rough parts in fiberglass and that's it. Forget about stock grilles, trim of any kind, emblems, etc...

As for the respect, I think it's getting there really. I've occasionally lingered within earshot of my car at cruise-ins. I like to listen to what people say to each other when they think the owner's not around. I've heard a kid dis my paint. Which is fine, it's about seven years old and due for another shot. (Hopefully this summer. He didn't notice one of my quarters was done with a spraycan so I actually considered that a win.) For some people a car show is really a paint and wax show anyway and those people's opinions are irrelevant. But that's the only negative I ever heard. Most people are impressed. They'll get up from their lawn chairs parked around their kitcar Cobras and catalog built Mustangs to come check it out. "Dude I've seen this car around, I think this is a daily driver!" "Oh, it's air conditioned too?" "That thing's gotta be light, I bet it'll fly!" "I like the way he did the [x, y, z]"

We're never going to get the respect of the guys with the period correct traditional hotrods, the ones who bankrolled their perfect Chevelle or Camaro builds, or the guys in Corvettes who think they're legit because they took their car to a track day event, changed their own alternator once and they can rub Zaino on it real good. But who wants that anyway? Those guys are in it for a different reason. Real car guys like Mavericks.

:hmmm: Hmmm, Maverick the only car you will ever love, but for most people the car you love to hate.

Nice Comet resto. This thread seams to have touched on a "nerve" here...
I hope to one day do a ground up resto on my Comet, but like most I don't have the equipment & skills to do it myself so it will take longer at a higher cost. That's Ok though because as mentioned earlier it didn't cost much for the car itself. I just hope circumstances don't arise that make me have to sell before I finish. I really feel for the owners who have to sell their prized projects due to hardship. I usually keep my opinions on prices to myself...if I need it or want it I either pony up the dough or just pass, I don't haggle or judge. I do like that there are members here that help and protect their fellow members. For its members this forum is priceless. :tiphat:

i guess you're right about the finding mustang parts easy and "cheap", but that's only if you live in the States, here, a mustang is like a "God-like Car" people just worships them, they don't even care 'bout any other car, not camaros, not trans ams, not chevelles, not corvettes, nothing but mustangs; if you go asking people if they had the money what antique car would they buy they instantly and without second thoughts say "A MUSTANG!!!" so obviously everything related to mustangs is skyhigh, you said $150 bucks for a bumper? yeah right, here it can cost more than twice for a used junker one; replica rims? up to $2000 WITHOUT TIRES! and i'm talking about replica rims not real american racings or shelbys. a rusted mustang with no engine and transmision can go up to $11000 bucks! and no that's not fastback, a notchback, the secretary car? that one!:eek3:

BEAUTIFUL CARS Dave and Torinoman......Restorations like this will be what drives the price of these cars up...h2o Your right about the Mustang down there. I did the La Carrara Panamerican race down there in 2008 in a 65 Fastback Mustang ( headed back down in 2011 with the same car and can't wait. You have a beautiful country ) and Honest to God every town we came into the people just wanted to touch that car even while it was moving through town. So what dose a guy like me that get's to roadrace Shelby Mustangs and even an X Budd Moore Trans-am Mustang use as a dailey driver....Nothing but a Maverick....There is just something about these cars....Grab em while you can....There going nowhere but up....

After following this thread from the start I say this single quote above sums it up in one short sentence. Good job Faceless.

Not one single person on here builds a quality Mav or Comet to sell for a profit. If they do my hat is off to them.
