What you don't like those K&N filters? Or the fact that it's not a drop base....I've got something new for this year already :)

You can buy a very good Maverick/Comet for $2,000 or less, spend $15,000 in parts, do-it-yourself labor (you've got to count your time for the total investment), and pro paint job and have a very nice $12-13,000 Maverick or Comet to sell and lose $4-5,000. IF, your intent was build a car to sell.

    Or...

You could do the same thing for yourself (and maybe kids), the love of the hobby, and have a priceless treasure that nobody can buy at any price. It's your baby; your masterpiece.

If you want to restore cars to sell for profit, then you need to leave Mavericks and Comets alone. It ain't happening any time soon.

    Very well said.
Take my car for instance. Doing the car at work on mine and my bodymans time. Paying him cash 20 bucks an hour. All paint and supplies were free/donated short of a few hundred bucks on the RO. Including the purchase price and all the other goodies I've bought I'm pushing 10,000. So even with all the money I saved on body and paint I still couldnt get my money back out of it.
And you nailed it. It is my baby. Its my creation for the most part and is personalized.
If I want to make money on a car I sell the one like I have for sale now. 2001 Sebring. 78K. 500 invested and about 6 hours labor. 1 used PCM, 2 rotors. 1 rocker panel. Should bring $4000 easy at 78K. These are the cars I can make money on. Generic mass produced cars that people use and dispose of. Hey wait thats what the Maverick was 30 years ago. If I save my Sebring for 25 years it will still be worth 4grand. Its just an everyday car like the Mav was.

Never done one single restoration for the money return aspect and never lost a nickle on any either so it's worth what someone is willing to pay hey that's what started this whole thread :hmmm:

You can buy a decent Mustang, Camaro, Trans Am, and between the cost of the car and the restoration you can spend a cool $10,000 - $15,000 and have a nice $20,000 - $25,000 Classic car.

    -- OR --

You can spend a cool $10,000 - $15,000 on buying a decent Maverick and putting the rest into restoring it to perfection and have a nice $5,000 - $8,000 Maverick.

Depends on what you are in it for? LOL hahaha
