Funny story. Never heard one like that. If you had a '66 Galaxie, you most likely had a 390 enigine. The biggest available back then was the 427/428 and it was the same engine family as the 390. The 390 was absolutely one of the most reliable engines ever made by anybody. The 460 first appeared in the mid '70's. It came from the 429 which first started showing in some vehicles in 1968.

Mustang II most likely. I know its nothing but a paint job but I do like the Cobra II's. It would be a ford product none the less.

Tough question. I dont think I would be as into cars as I am without the Maverick/Comet. Though my taste of cars varies into different brands, I have always had a Maverick and that has always been my main toy. Probably woulda stuck with my 56 Chevy and woulda been waaaay into them.

If I didn't have my Maverick, I would have been able to put the money I have dumped into my Maverick into my 1970 Torino GT. What was I thinking?:hmmm: Oh wait, the Maverick is lighter and more fun to drive than that boat. :D Plus my Torino is too original to hack up into a hot rod. It's more of a cruiser in my mind. Nothing wrong with a cruiser.

A lot of engines came from utilizing that FE block - 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427. 428 - just to name the more popularly known ones. Plus, there was a boat load of engines just for big trucks. That engine is making a big comeback. Dove makes a new block and I think Shelby does, too. I think Shelby is even reproducing the 427 med- and hi- riser heads. Roush is building crate engines with that FE block. I think the replica Cobra crowd has had a lot to with this resurgence.

I'd stick with a small car like a pinto, muskrat II, or a Fox body. It would have to be Ford powered as the only other american cars I've owned have left me on the side of the road. But, before I got my Comet I almost bought a monza with a 327. The crank was bent so I didn't. And if it weren't for my Comet convincing me that Ford was the only way to go, I would probably have a Vega.

all the time and money in my maverick would be sitting under the hood of my cutlass. it pains my heart to know that its chevy powered. its powered by a hella quick chevy but i would have sinked a little dough into a big block oldsmobile motor.

A friend of mine was into early 80s Malibus and had one with a factory 3 speed (the infamous Iraqi Taxi). So I probably would have had one and would have started malibu.to

What stopped me looking for a Vega was that I already had this Cleveland from my Gran Torino and was still determined to put some big engine into something small and light. I had been mainly looking for a 2 door 65 Falcon so I bought a set of swap headers from Tubular and the 65 Falcon was really what those headers were originally designed for. I never found a Falcon that wasn't rotted beyond repair and a free Maverick was a free Maverick. More than likely I would have finally found that 65 or maybe stuffed the 351 into a Fairmont.
