here to piss more people off. though its the other way around. one of the guys i work indirectly is buliding it. its a RX-7 for you that don't know what it is look whats in it.. thats an LS1 for you all ford guys
Sweet car. Ought to be a ripper. I hope he's not one of those guys that goes to all the trouble of a motor swap and uses a stock motor though. I think that's one of the most difficult ways to obtain mediocre performance.
That's a sweet car! I see a couple improvements to the engine... so it's not totally stock. I have always liked the later model Rx7s. They are a really small car. It ought to be a blast to drive. To me a 5.0 Ford just seems to go with a Miata, and an LS1 seems to go with the Rx7. I know of at least 2 Rx7 swaps previous. One was into an earlier model... the one that looked like a mini-Vette from the 80s. These engines seem to get around just like the 5.0... seems to pop up in the most obscure places. Dave
Remember years back when Chevy small blocks into Datsun (Nissan) Z cars were the hot swap? I always thought a Ford 5.0 engine, 5-speed and 8.8 rear would have been perfect for a Z-car swap Picture it, a 240 or 260-Z with an early 90's Mustang GT drivetrain, and maybe a set of Bullitts or Cobra R wheels......... Sweeeeet! Heck, that might even be easier than getting the late model drivetrain in my Maverick!
when I was a kid in high school an older friend put a built up 350 in his brothers 240 z. I heard it was a pretty fun ride.:bananaman 4 spd and they left the stock datsun rear, from what I heard, he had no issues with the rear. so,....if everyone is fine with a domestic in an import, then whats the deal with the other way around? nothing wrong with blending some hi-tech with old junk is there?:evilsmile
but remember ford owns part of mazda too yes there were a few around where i use to live... the name that i know they were called were scarabs. i just saw a 350 chevy in a 510! also my good friend of mine owns a 81 celica with a N/A buick 231 in it.. kinda slow though but my friend who owned it before him had put a blow through turbo on it. it ran mid 13's
I had a friend in school who put a 383 from a totalled roadrunner into his 240z, he had to reinforce the frame of course but that was a fun car!
When I was a kid, long time ago, there was a man in Daytona Beach that made a living out of putting Ford and Chevy engines in Jags and Mercedes and other very expensive cars. Folks would buy an expensive car, and when they got some age on them, and the engines went, he could put a domestic engine in there, for 1/3 the price of the stock engine. Also, it was more reliable and easier to fix and find parts for. I guess it goes both ways.
Is it just me, or do the same things keep getting said over and over again in this thread? Personally, I'll build my car how ever the hell I want. If no one likes it, no skin off my back! I think the ultimate engine for a Maverick as far as power to gas mileage goes would be a 24 valve Duratec V6 out of a Taurus SEL. But my old 250 6 cylinder does just fine really. Maverick Man, I really like your views on this.
pretty much, but some of us were hoping no one would notice because we've had so muich fun with it:evilsmile
Time to :deadhorse I finally found the thread about the import engine swap debate/bash! Since were nearing the end of 2006 I thought I would drag this up since it was a favorite of 2005! Did I mention I'm saving for my Import Mav motor swap? Oh it's a grabber too! Yeah I like stirring the pot....:evilsmile
