I would most definitely make every effort to buy the car back from the insurance company. Judging from the pictures it looks fixable. If you had regular insurance on the car they won't be the least bit interrested in wanting to repair it. It's too old for them to care. Classic or antique insurance is the way to go.

Hagerty would be your insurance. They place many restrictions on the car like when you can drive it, must be kept in a locked garage, no one under a certain age can drive it, etc.

I have American Collectors Insurance on my Maverick and it has pretty much the same restrictions as Hagerty. I believe all collector insurance companys operate in the same way. When you insure a car through a collector insurance company the car can no longer be used as a daily driver. You have to own a second car that will be your primary transportation. If you check with the different collector insurance companys out there they should list thier restrictions on thier websites.

I have Grundy. Tried to get Hagerty because I liked their roadside assistance plan but I had nitrous on the car at the time and Hagerty said they don't insure cars with power adders. Went to Grundy and they didn't even ask about power adders and they have unlimited mileage. But you do have to keep your car in a locked garage and it can't be your primary transportation.

I see you live in Florida,as do I. You must be around Orlando to have had 2 wrecks in less than 2 weeks! I won't drive there! If I need to go there I'll get a friend to drive or pay to ride the bus! The drivers there have suicidal tendencies! Unfortunately it usually involves someone else! I'm very sorry about your car. Get it back before they put a salvage title on it,and take a little less on the payoff. The car doesn't look that bad,and you can replace all the parts damaged. Don't let the insurance company screw you! IMHO they are nothing but legalized extortionists! Iv'e never had good dealings with any of them!:(

I have all parts to fix, so I'm waiting to see the value they give it then we'll go from there. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Well the insurance co. for the girl who hit me gave me a value on the grabber today. First, they did comparables with three 1973 4 door 6 cylinder mavericks. Second, each one they compared it too was almost a thousand miles away. Suppose to be within 100 miles. Letting my attorney handle it now.

I work with a company that can give you a "Pre-Accident" appraisal on your car if you decide you need it. I'm pretty sure we have an agent fairly close to you. Let me know if you need to contact them.

My Silver Wheels policy is as follows, HAve to own a fully covered primary car. Drivers must have 10 years plus experience. NOT to be used for errands and to work. I get away with the work thing though since I could be repairing it. (y)
    Costs me 110 bucks a year.:thumbs2:

Bottom line: If you have a bunch of money in a nice car, get collector car insurance for it.

Plus if you have collector insurance and you need a part to fix the car, chances are you can sell them one of your spare parts to put on your car. My dads neighbor has done it many times with his 68 F-100, he has extra everything brand new NOS.
