Interesting thought on rear disc axle play

    I tack welded a spacer between the bearing retainer and the bearing to take up the difference in thickness between the drum backing plate and the disc bracket. This mimicked the spacing that Ford racing provided when they offered these brakes as a kit for some 9" axles. I did mine over 10 years ago from an extra Explorer Sport Trac axle parts that we had here at the shop. Before adding the spacers, I was able to slide the axle bearing in and out this amount plus I wanted more positive clamp load on the disc bracket since I slotted the hole to fit the 8" axle flange.
