My brother suggested switching to 20-50 oil and driving it till it drops. But he's a Chevy man, what does he know? An oil pump can be ordered from the local parts house for $70+. My impression from the directions in the Chilton's is that I can drop the oil pan in place (w/o raising the engine) and do the switch.
Just for grins I tried the 20-50 oil. It doubled the pressure. At first start-up the press was 50 psi. Cruising at 70mph after warmup the pressure held at 30 and was 10 psi at idle in gear. I think this gives me a little time.
