    I wud clean the rust as best I cud, and like others B4 me I wud use some of the chemicals to suspend the rest. I agree w/ the painter, "to involved of a build - to cut corners". If I were going to try to weld over rust - it definitely wud not be in a hi-stress area like tbox. I personally, do not believe one can get a strong weld on rusty metal.

    Good idea... I believe harbor freight does a 30 day return policy. Use it and return it :p

    Just a friendly word of advice.. you better have a damned good air compressor, bud. And a pressure pot style would be far better than a siphon fed unit. With a smaller cfm air compressor it can be done too.. but you charge it up.. deplete it in 30 seconds flat.. recharge it.. work for another 30 seconds.. etc.

    A family member owns a media blasting comp, I might just trailer the car over there and have him blast the torque boxes for me. Need to pick up my parts I sent for media blast and powder coat

    Just out of curiosity.. why didn't you notch the firewall for more engine clearance while you're chopping up all this sheetmetal?

    Ordered some 2x3 .083 square tubing with miter cuts at a 45 degree angle at 50 5/8th" and 10 5/8th" 2x3 .083 square tubing with miter cut at 45 degrees. Tack welded and ready for pick up at a beautiful low price of $19.34.

    I reached out to a local company last week for same thing and they wanted 85$ but for 2x3 square stock at 6'. *rolls eyes*

    Spoke with the wife's dad today and he pointed me to his POC at the local metal supplier which happens to be at the same place I called for 85$

    Gonna head down and go pick it up. :)

    I learned this years ago that the basic steel shapes are cheap, by the length, and just how expensive it could be if you actually bought a finished product opposed to creating it yourself :)

    You could build an altered wheelbase A/FX Maverick and use the short ones!

    Haha, Yeah I am going crazy, but I dont think I could or would ever attempt to shorten a car length wise. Would be pretty cool to see though.

    However, I defiantly will be using everything up. I took some more exact measurements tonight. The way I cut the firewall will allow me to slip a sheet right over the outside, and very easily slip into the interior to create one soild piece instead of using multiple sheets and trying to plug weld, or butt-weld. I think it will make the firewall look sleek, and look factory imo.

    Once I get the remaining correct length pieces I will be able to have some gussets punch out on the water jet machine to strengthen the torque boxes into the new material(s). I believe this is going to go rather quickly, as far as materials and getting everything tacked. Should be done with the entire chassis/floor of the car by end of January, or at least that is my plan but we all know how those go :rofl2:.

    I need to also take some measurements tomorrow so I can fab the rear frame rail cart. I took some more measurements, and ran some math to figure out the measurements I would need to make the car level according to my garage floor. So that when I am doing final welding of the chassis everything should be plum level. That will also give me the ability to have the chassis tacked into place, and gussets in to move the car and have it all tig welded.

    I plan on purchasing the back half kit, tin kit, 9" coil over brackets, for xmas present :dancing:-- of course from santa.

    Question;

    How would you be able to get a pedal assembly to work properly since the mavericks torque boxes dont really allow it., to do something similar to what this mustang did.

    Also, I am kinda going the route this mustang did with the cage front on the maverick. I like the idea of the fenders hanging on by the front cage clip, and how everything else runs. A lot of inspiration from this Mustang.

    Holy fudge!.. that's a nicely engineered car and I feel inspired too. Even has an underbody airpan and rear diffusers. Linky link?

    And the torque boxs in these cars is nearly identical to a Mustangs design which means that the finished pedal/hydraulics design would also be similar. Although.. likely somewhat more space limited, is all.

    WOW!!!.. the exhaust is also routed under the airpan and out the quarters like I always wanted to do too. Wheel well dumped headers are nicely done too. Damn that's nice!

    And the SOHC motor just pushes it to the stratosphere of ultimate dream cars. Please tell me it's not a 69 fastback or I'll tear up in envy. lol
