yeah they always say they are factory calibrated, but once installed they have to be fine tuned for the vehicle. also don't forget you are running the GM alternator and they counted on the factory ford one. the best bet is to get some feed back diodes to put them inline....

The reason I asked about the gears, was, I've been told that "Richmond" gears, which I also use, are pretty hard, and have been known to make a noise if a little loose. I have a noise in my car when I coast it, if I step on the gas, while moving at any speed, they let off, and let the car coast, I can hear it. Every bearing and both u-joints are brand new, so I'm going to pull the gears, and have them checked again.

My richmonds were very loud when I installed them. I didn't have the torque to crush the sleeve, so there was some play in there. Went forward just fine, but when I let off the gas and the pressure was released, it hummed pretty loudly as it decelerated.

But last year, I took the pumpkin in to a local guy and he verified it was all straight (it was) and torqued down to crush the sleeve.

    Silent now.

I'd look into the x-pipe possibility.

The only reason I keep steering away from the X-pipe is because I like to be able to take one entire side of my exhaust off (or both) when working under there.

For example, I swapped transmissions a couple weeks back and it is nice to be able to drop one muffler and pipe in 3 minutes and have extra space to work under there.

My system is welded up and complete, and I don't want to have to buy all new stuff, when this is only a little over a year old.

I did two things yesterday. I rotated the driveshaft 180, and took the lock washers off the u-joints. Then I put locktite on the ujoints, and put the nuts on without a washer, and just barely snugged it.

I lost most of that noise and vibration.

It still makes the raaawwwr-raaawwwr sound, but it doesn't vibrate the entire car like it did.

So apparently, I had two different issues going on. But I don't know if the vibration was from overtightened nuts or driveshaft phase since I changed both at the same time.

    You know what I mean...:p

I put locktite on the 4 screws that hold the ujoint on. Rather than using the lockwashers that came with it.

did turning the drive shaft 180 bring the phase diodes back into alignment also? or are they even farther out now? you will notice the flux capacitor displaying orange instead of the nice bluish green.....cool that your getting closer though.

Well, I have fixed the noise. It ended up being pinion angle, and unloading the CalTracs helped most of it, but then installing a 2 degree shim getting total angle to about 1 degree quieted it completely down.

Silent on the freeway at 70. All I can hear now is the engine!
