Here's what I am thinking thanks to the all the great ideas from you guys..
Get two 2x6s about 4" shorter on each side of the inside of my trailer and mount some casters under them on each end about under the rockers. I can put them in independant of each other as I ease the trailer under the car backing up. 2x8s may sit flatter.. Hopefuly the weight on the boards will keep them where I put them. I don't see me screwing them on to anything. Being they will have a caster wheel they should not resist in drag and just roll.. Kinda like a furniture dolly only without two of the boards. So the boards will go from side to side..

So four casters per board. Two Boards. You could put blocking between the board and front cross member and chain or ratchet strap it together (like predfan2001 suggested). If you could get the rear leafs in, and make four super-long (12" or more) shackles, you could put the second board under the leafs and chain/strap them to that. The longer shackles should give you enough rocker clearance if you make them long enough and or use a 6x6 under the springs.

Why not just run some runners out of your trailer jack the car up onto them and use the winch to pull the runners back up. Basically take your drawing and turn those planks 90 degrees. Run a H plank for support. If you run them like in your drawing one could twist under the car and get you stuck if it hits a funny gap going into the trailer.

edit - you'd think the gate guy has some material laying around to make a cool winch powered sliding system for his trailer anyway...

Looks good, Gene. Since we're having art class, here's what I was thinking in that old pumpkin of a head of mine.;)

You could even run a couple of 2x4's down the trans tunnel to tie the two together.

I do have material that I could use. Just seems heavy and slipery unless fastened somehow.. Different ideas have crossed my mind though. Like making a crossmember to bolt to the cars front suspension crossmember.

Tieing the two together would be best I am sure as the boards could slip like MSmithPDX mentioned. Casters cost a few dollars and either I do this within low budget or just call the flatbed guy.. I will get the price from him here in a bit after lunch.

Gene you are probably too paranoid about loading the car than you need to be, I have loaded several with no running gear under them and the go on pretty easy.

Back your trailer under it as far as you can go, if car has to go higher to get trailer under if jack it up some more, it would probably be a good idea to have a couple 8' 4x4s just incase. Floorjacks are always handy in situations like this also

The frame rails front and rear provide plenty of support for sliding the car but you could always put some old tires under it to cushion it some.

Dont put the leaf springs back on as they will just make things harder.

    Good luck :Handshake

I had a shell that someone wanted and we used 4 furniture movers (2x4s with casters) to load it. Went on the trailer fairly easy.

Pieces of pipe. Put them under the car to roll it on, moving them rearward or forward as needed.

    Cheap and effective.
