Simple solution! Two 4X4's 8' long. One under the front of the car and one under the back of the car going side to side. Using the 4X4's lift or jack the car up (maybe even 4 guys could support it, not sure...) high enough so you can back your trailer up under it completely. Then lower the car onto the trailer and strap it down. Sound good? EDIT: there's no sliding or wheeling involved.
With the car stripped down...You shouldnt get a ticket for hauling a car on a non-car trailer...Just tell the cop its only parts...If you pull the doors and front clip off it...4 healthy guys could lift it. I could lift mine off the body dolly I had it on by my lonesome...Granted I could only lift one end. (Did it to see how stable it was on the dolly) But its not that heavy once stripped down to a shell...Why dont you ask the flatbed guy how he loads empty car shells...Good luck Gene!!!
Flat bed guy wants $250 to $350.. Says he will get it into my garage and understands I don't want to simply drag it. .. I will spend $80-$90 in fuel myself. If I talk him into the $250 then it's actually like $160-$170 when considering what I would spend in fuel. I have pipe I could roll it on but I fear bending stuff or the plan going awray. Whichever way it is coming home Sunday.
Compared to you spending the gas money getting it, Your day spent doing it, The stress and frustration of getting it on your trailer, unloading it.... whether it be $250 or $350 I'd just pay him.
All ideas welcome.. I am not sure about lifting the car much higher than it is sitting already. The sides of the trailer will also interfear with anyone lifting..
if you go the...rollback route...check and see what his...if he damages it clause is...there may be an exempt clause being it is...not a rolling car...
In answer to your first question Gene, I loaded a Comet on my trailer without a rear end, the springs held the car off the trailer deck. Mine had front wheels though, I picked up the rear with my tractor and pushed it up on the trailer.
If you have a welder and some extra rear spring plates you could maybe weld or bolt some metal casters (like Harbor Freight carries) on them and remount the leaf springs. That would be half the problem solved to get it loaded.
is the floor of your trailer wood or flat metal? or diamond plate? is the floor if metal all one piece or two pieces? if its all one piece or wood regardless of flat or diamond plate I would just back up under the car with the trailer and use a cherry picker to lift the front with the hood off since theres no motor or trans and winch it up to the front. worst thing its going to do is scratch it. as long as theres no exhaust youre golden. I think youre over thinking this thing. stick a chain around the cross member in the front and lift it with a cherry picker. 10 minutes youll have it loaded almost as if it had wheels that OR BUILD A ROTISSERIE and then load it on your trailer once mounted on the rotisserie
Thanks guys.. I have been overthinking it and I am tired of worrying about it. I am going to get the flatbed guy to go get it.. BUT now junrai NOW has me worried about the exhaust which I had not even considered. I remember it hanging low since it is disconnected..
