How does it ride with those KYBs? is it noticeably different from the old shocks? I am considering getting some KYBs, but don't wanna do it if the ride is gonna be the same.
At this point, I do feel limited in the amount of input I can provide. I’ve put less than 100 miles on the new setup, it would be easy to say “there awesome” but I don’t think that would be very objective, especially if it turns out to be less than optimal down the road. A couple things I can comment on, the rears are not a direct fit. The KG5447 require using the upper pin/bolt from the old shock. Mine had a press fit fastener that was difficult to get off. Luckily my Pop pitched in using a large flathead screwdriver to pry on the fastener off while I rotated the bolt, clamping the shock in a vice stabilized everything (As a side note, he’s now up in his seventies and it was nice to see him in the garage again!). The other thing, the new kit comes with new rubber bushings/washers that are 12 sizes too small (ok that’s an exaggeration) but they are useless for our application. Right now I’m looking for the big flat rubber bushings to replace the old ones, mine are dry and cracking. The ride quality sub 100 miles is firm front and rear. The road feel is good but I enjoy a certain amount of feedback, including non-power steering, I do like to feel the road. If you are looking for a soft Cadillac style ride, this is likely ‘not’ the setup for you. I’d consider my setup budget minded, all Moog/Scott Drake parts are very reasonably priced compared to some full blown custom suspension setups I’ve seen ranging in the $2500-$3500 neighborhood. At that price point you get tons more performance but I’d say for the money I’ve spent so far, I’m very happy. I think it would be interesting to revisit this thread in about a year and see where things are at. I have KYB's on my car for abt 9mos., I do recall they were not a direct fit at top mounting point as Kboldin explains, I had to use some parts from old shocks. I am satisfied w/the ride quality. I wud'nt say they are stiff or cushy somewhere in between. I believe they are a good value for the money. I probably have over a 1000mi. on these shocks.
