Ok now for the update...the first pics are of the two nicer wheels prepped for paint.(the other rims you saw finished were the ugly ones). The next two pics are of the rims with 2 coats of Eastwoods rust encapsulator.Tomorrow...primer...Stay tuned...:p

How did you get the chrome finish taken off so the encapsulator will stick to it.

These rims were never plated. If they were there would have been alot more sanding along with a coat of variprime. That would rule out the use of encapsulator though.I must say though...the rust encapsulator sticks really well wherever you put it,and once its dry...its pretty darn hard.
If these rims were plated I would have probably passed on them.As it stands now I have $246.00 in em including the purchase price, dont even ask about the labor...LOL...(fortunately I work cheap).

    Next installment/rim pics.

Two Wheels...Primed/scuffed and painted... Next step will be masking to paint the coves/painting em and then clear coat. Then I have to put the Grabber blue pinstripe on all 4...That will be interesting :bouncy:

You know, my steelies would look good with a Grabber Blue stripe. Too bad your across the border. Maybe I'll give our body shop a challenge. Reverse phycology works great on our body man. Tell him he cant do it its too difficult and poof its done. Hope he doesnt read this. He has a habit of looking over my shoulder at work. :hmmm:

Wheels are looking great! I did a set of them about 4 years ago the same way you are doing yours except I just painted mine silver and black but I did clearcoat them. You never realize how much work it takes to do a complete set of these wheels until you do it. Great job! :thumbs2:

You aint kidding Ray!!! Did my Firebird formula aluminum wheels 3 yrs ago. These are just as much of a pain.
Gotta use a clearcoat or they will only look good for a few weeks.

Had to mask these monsters for the black paint today. It was kinda like masking off a 59 Eldorado, only smaller :biglaugh:Pic progression tells all.
